Tin halide perovskites (THPs) have appealing optoelectronic properties similar to lead halide perovskites (LHPs). However, THPs coated on metal oxide electrodes in normal-structure perovskite solar cells exhibit poor diode rectification, resulting in poor efficiency. This poor photoelectric performance in n-i-p-based THP solar cells is in contrast with LHP solar cells. We report that this deficient performance of THP solar cells is triggered by the defect states of the metal oxide layer. The defect states of the metal oxide can trap the electrons from the THP, leading to the prompt formation of Sn(IV), which will increase the carrier density and lead to poor photoelectric performance. This observation was supported by the ultraviolet-photoelectron spectroscopic measurements of inorganic thin films Al2O3, SnO2, TiO2, ZnO, and ZrO2. However, this self-doping phenomenon resulting in the increase in carrier density can be applied to thermoelectric studies. Using CsSnI3/ZrO2 nanocomposites as thermoelectric active layers, we report a power factor of 186.58 μW/mK2 measured at room temperature, which is better than the 148.61 μW/mK2 of the original CsSnI3 thin film.

Hybrid halide perovskite research has recently been focused on thermoelectric energy harvesting due to the cost-effectiveness of the fabrication approach and to the ultra-low thermal conductivity. To achieve high performance, tuning of the electrical conductivity is a key parameter that is influenced by grain boundary scattering and charge carrier density. The fabrication process allows the tuning of these parameters. We report the use of anti-solvent to enhance the thermoelectric performance of lead-free hybrid halide perovskite (CH3NH3SnI3) thin films. Thin films with anti-solvent show higher connectivity in grains and higher Sn+4 oxidation states which result in the enhancement of the value of electrical conductivity. The thin films were prepared by a cost-effective wet process. Structural and chemical characterizations were performed using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The values of electrical conductivity and the Seebeck coefficient were measured near room temperature. A high value of the power factor (1.55 μW m-1 K-2 at 320 K) was achieved for thin films treated with anti-solvent.

<p>冷感マスクの冷却効果をふく射伝熱によって考察するため，それらの垂直入射-半球反射スペクトルを測定した．ポリエステル，ナイロン，綿，ポリプロピレンを主成分とする5種類のマスク，比較のため2種のインナー，1種の日傘で合計8種を測定対象とした．ポリエステルを主成分とする素材が放射伝熱冷却に優れている測定結果が得られ，3μm以下の可視光域で反射率が高く，赤外域で低かった．測定結果に基づき放射冷却に着目した性能指数を導入し，冷却マスクの放射冷却メカニズムを考察した．走査電子顕微鏡で観察し，表面に光学干渉する特徴的構造がなく，材料の持つ光学特性がふく射伝熱冷却性能を決めていると考えられる．</p>

© 2020 Elsevier Ltd The effects of the electrolytic activation of bubble nucleation on heat transfer in the saturated boiling of water were experimentally investigated. A copper heated surface is used as a cathode in the electrolysis circuit in this study. The hydrogen bubbles electrolytically generated at the heated surface are used as boiling bubble nuclei to increase the nucleation site density. This paper is the first report on the heat transfer characteristics in boiling activated by electrolysis. In the experiment, the generated hydrogen bubbles were confirmed to actually act as boiling bubble nuclei through the visualization of bubble behavior. The electrolytic supply of boiling bubble nuclei significantly enhanced the boiling heat transfer, as intended. The electrolytic boiling activation was found to be more effective at a lower heat flux with fewer bubbles at the heated wall. Finally, it was demonstrated that this method is also useful for reducing/controlling incipient boiling superheat.

© 2020, The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society. Thermoelectric effect can convert thermal energy into electricity without any moving parts or vibrations in light or dark. These can be promising advantages to develop sustainable energy source for internet of things devices. In this regards, thin films of hybrid-halide perovskites, methylamonium tin iodide, were fabricated by spin coating technique on a glass substrate at different annealing times. Thin films were structurally and chemically characterized by x-ray diffraction pattern and a scanning electron microscope. Thermoelectric parameters were measured near room temperature. During optimization, thin films annealed for 5 min at 100°C shows the high performance with electrical conductivity 3.56 S/cm, Seebeck coefficient 66.03 μV/K and power factor of 1.55 μW/m K2 at 50°C. Thermoelectric performance from these hybrid-halide perovskite will help for further development of direct thermal energy harvesting devices near room temperature.

In this study, we fabricated micro thermoelectric power generator using freestanding film substrate, and we evaluated the performance of the generator from the standpoint of thermoelectric performance and thermal design. We fabricated a SiNxfree-standing film substrate about 5 μm thick on Si wafer, using MEMS processes. Then, we prepared for both p and n type of bismuth telluride thermoelectric thin films by using a coaxial type vacuum arc evaporation method, and annealed for one hour at 573 K. As an electrode, Cu was deposited using a vacuum deposition method. We fabricated the thermoelectric power generator of 5 mm × 5 mm using a shadow mask for the patterning. The fabricated generator can create temperature difference of 22.3 K due to its high thermal resistance of the structure when the heat source temperature is 373 K. The exergy of the thermoelectric device is up to 7%. Therefore, the generator can convert about 0.4% of thermal energy into electric energy, even though the material performance is low with ZT = 0.28. The conversion efficiency is much higher than that of the conventional Π type thermoelectric module. It was possible to get higher performance by the thermal design, which is a more simple way than an improvement of ZT.
