A Full-Bridge Converter with snubber capacitor for HVDC system has been proposed. The snubber capacitor is used to suppress the surge voltage of secondary side diode, and has confirmed prominent effect of surge suppression. Furthermore, the snubber circuit consists of a single capacitor only, and can be miniaturized the converter. However, the snubber capacitor changes the operation of the converter. As a result, a new problem which increases switching loss of primary switchi occurs. This paper examines the switching-loss reduction technique which uses a PWM control for full-bridge converter with snubber capacitor. As a result, the loss of switches was decreased about a quarter, and the efficiency of 96% was achieved.
