In March 2025, he received a Ph.D. in Engineering from the Graduate School of Life Science and Systems Engineering, Kyushu Institute of Technology. He subsequently joined the Center for Future Thinking and Demonstration at Kyushu Institute of Technology, which aims to foster university spin-off startups, as an Entrepreneur in Residence (EiR). Since August 2026, he has been serving in his current position. He has founded two university spin-off startups and is actively serving as their CEO and CTO.

    <p>One of the significant challenges in the development of care robots is recognizing and adapting to individual differences in users' physiques and symptoms, thereby providing personalized assistance. Among Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), dressing assistance poses a particularly complex problem due to the physical interaction between clothing, the human body, and the robot. This complexity is further amplified in care settings, as the primary users are elderly or disabled individuals, whose physical characteristics vary widely. This study focuses on the physical traits of elderly individuals targeted by dressing assistance robots and proposes an adaptive method that accommodates variations in body size and kyphosis. The proposed approach utilizes Dynamic Movement Primitives (DMPs) to generate dressing trajectories that conform to the user's body, based on skeletal information estimated by a vision sensor. Experiments were conducted with eight healthy individuals of varying body types simulating kyphotic posture, one healthy elderly participant, and one elderly participant with posture-related impairments due to Parkinson's disease. The results demonstrate that, compared to non-adaptive methods, the proposed approach enables more adaptive and less burdensome dressing assistance. </p>

    <p>In Japan, the shortage of caregivers due to the aging of the population is a serious issue and the demand for care robots is increasing. Changing and wiping, which is one of the main care tasks, is still not sufficiently skilled and is often carried out by carers alone. Against this background, we are developing a dressing assistance robot system. However, the task of picking hangers from the hanger rack was a bottleneck in our dressing assistance robot system. Therefore, we developed a hanger recognition method based on active object recognition for implementation in a dressing assistance robot system and improved the recognition accuracy. In this paper, the usefulness of a recognition method using active object recognition in the hanger recognition task is evaluated through experiments and future prospects for integration into a dressing assistance system are described. </p>

    <p>We have been developing the "Smart Workcell," which supports the elderly and disabled in the high-mix, low-volume production of products and self-help devices. This study installed an electric wheelchair in a Smart Workcell and proposed a velocity-based head gesture control system that uses the face orientation acquired by a depth sensor to allow the user to change the chair posture in an ambient manner. Finally, the proposed system's effectiveness is verified by experiments, and prospects, such as speech recognition methods as a human interface for electric wheelchair are also discussed.</p>
