A Ti(C, N)/TiB reinforced titanium matrix composite layer was successfully in-situ synthesized by laser melting on Ti-6Al-4V alloy surface with Ti-BN-C mixed powder, aiming at improving the wear resistance. The microstructure, chemical composition, hardness and wear behavior were analyzed. The results showed that, the cross sectional microstructure can be clearly divided into three parts, which were the laser melted layer, heat affected zone and non-affected zone. The reinforcements in laser melted layer consisted of dendritic TiC0.3N0.7 phases and fine-structure TiB phases. The matrix in laser melted layer was in a two-phase structure, being composed of platelet α titanium and intergranular β titanium. The hardness was increased from 320 HV in the substrate to 450-550 HV in the modified layer. The wear resistance was improved that, the wear volume loss of the laser treated sample was approximately half of the as received Ti-6Al-4V alloy after 8 h wear test.

Copyright © 2016 Electric Power Research Institute, Inc.The creep degradation/life assessment for high temperature critical component materials is absolutely needed to assure the long-term service operation and there is little experience with the service exposure of the high temperature components made of newly developed Ni-based alloys. In this study, therefore, the creep degradation assessment study on the Ni-based alloys, Alloy 617 and HR6W was conducted based on the hardness method, because the hardness measurement is a useful and simple technique for the materials characterization for any kind of high temperatureserviced steels and alloys. As the result, it was found that the hardness was increased by not only precipitation due to thermal aging but also creep stress/strain, and there existed linear relationship between the applied stress and creep-induced hardness increase. Also the hardness scatter measured was increased along with the progress of creep hardening and damage progressing in terms of creep life consumed. Those findings suggested that the creep life assessment of Ni-based alloys would be possible by means of hardness measurement. The paper also deals with the role and perspective development of non destructive damage detecting techniques, and life assessment issues on Ni-based alloys for A-USC power applications.

Copyright © 2016 by ASME.The power plant materials engineers are still tweaking the specification of grade 91 in order to prevent the improper production and construction. In this sense the chemistry, heat treatment conditions and design/fabrication rules for this steel should be highly optimized to achieve the safe elevated temperature properties and to avoid the abuse during the construction. This paper presents the recent findings on creep degradation behavior in grade 91 followed by the review and discussion about the effect of chemical composition and constituent on the creep strength/ductility in correlation to the chemical specification for this steel. Additionally the design factor for creep and creep-fatigue of grade 91 steels was considered to propose a new rule on the stand point of the changes in creep degradation mechanism at long-term region. As the results it was found that the martensitic lath structure in the grade 91 exposed at the creep loading significantly reduces the dislocation density to form the ferritic subgrain structure at long-term exposure which exhibits different creep mechanism from that of original martensitic structure. So that the multiplier of 0.67 applied to average stress for rupture in 100.000 h may not be used even below the temperature of 815°C. Therefore the F-factor is recommended to be applied at the temperature above 615°C for base metal and 545°C for welds considering the magnitude of the creep strength scatter band in the existing chemical specification ranges.

アルミニウムの拡散接合は鉄型又はチタン型と違い、接合過程において、接合界面に酸化被膜が存在するため、新生面の現出が妨げられ、十分な原子の拡散が生じず、低い接合強度しか得られないとされている。そこで、本研究において酸化被膜を破壊できるTLP拡散接合について検討した。
