We are investigating rough sets and rough set-based computing, and proposed a framework <i>Rough Non-deterministic Information Analysis (RNIA)</i>. In RNIA, NIS-Apriori is the core algorithm, andthis article adds the parallel functionality to this algorithm. According to some experiments, we show thevalidity of this parallel functionality.

Rough approximations, which consist of lower and upper approximations, are described under objects characterized by possibilistic information that is expressed by a normal possibility distribution. Concepts of not only possibility but also certainty are used to construct an indiscernibility relation. First, rough approximations are shown for a set of discernible objects are shown by using the indiscernibility relation. Next, a set of objects characterized by possibilistic information is approximated. Consequently, rough approximations consist of objects with a degree expressed by an interval value where lower and upper degrees mean the lower and the upper bounds of the actual degree. This leads to that the complementary property linked with lower and upper approximations holds, as is valid under complete information.

This article reports an application of Rough Non-deterministic Information Analysis (RNIA) to two data sets. The one is Mushroom data set in UCI machine leaning repository, and the other is students' questionnaire data set. Even though these data sets include lots of missing values, we obtained some interesting rules by employing NIS-Apriori algorithm to these data sets.

Rough sets are examined in information tables containing possibilistic information. It is known that rough approximations are not unique, but are obtained in the form of lower and upper bounds of the actual rough approximations. Only possible rough approximations, the upper bound of the actual rough approximations, are examined in the previous studies. This paper describes rough approximations by formulating certain rough approximations as well as possible ones.

We have coped with several aspects related to Non-deterministic Information Systems (NISs), and we have proposed a mathematical framework 'Rough Non-deterministic Information Analysis' (RNIA). In rule generation, we employed possible equivalence classes, and showed the effective calculation by NIS-Apriori algorithm. In this paper, we focus on data dependencies in NISs, and reconsider the calculation by granules inf and sup.

A method of possible equivalence classes has been developed under information tables with incomplete values which contain a missing value as a special case. To deal with imprecision of rough approximations that comes from incomplete values, the concepts of certainty and possibility are used. When an information table contains incomplete values, two rough approximations, certain and possible ones, are obtained. The actual rough approximation lies between the certain and possible rough approximations. The method gives the same results as a method of possible worlds. This justifies the method of possible equivalence classes. Furthermore, the method is free from the restriction that incomplete values may occur to only some specified attributes. Hence, we can use the method of possible equivalence classes to obtain rough approximations between arbitrary sets of attributes having partial values.

A rule in a Deterministic Information System (DIS) is often defined by an implication T such that both support(T) > alpha and accuracy(T) > beta hold for the threshold values alpha and beta.In a Non-deterministic Information System (NIS), there are derived DISs due to the information incompleteness. A rule in a DIS was extended to either a rule in the lower system or a rule in the upper system in a NIS. This paper newly introduces a criterion, i.e., stability factor, into rules in a NIS. Rules in the upper system are classified according to the stability factor.

We have been proposing a framework Rough Non-deterministic Information Analysis (RNIA), which handles rough sets based concepts in not only Deterministic Information Systems (DISs) but also Non- deterministic Information Systems (NISs). We have recently developed some algorithms and software tools for rule generation from a NIS. Obtained rules characterize the tendencies in a NIS, and they are often applied to a decision making. However, if the condition parts in such rules are not satisfied, obtained rules are not applied to a decision making. In this case, we need to examine the NIS, directly. In this paper, we add a question-answering function with criterion values to RNIA. For a set CON of condition attribute values, this function picks up decision attribute values DEC with maximum and minimum values of support(CON=>DEC) and accuracy (CON=>DEC). According to these criterion values, we define the validity of the decision DEC.

We consider a constraint satisfaction problem in tables. For solving this constraint satisfaction problem, we cope with some methods, i.e., an enumeration method, a search method, a granular computing method and a combined method. The granular computing method follows the rough sets based method in tables, and we show each property in every method. According to this attempt, we try to apply rough sets to solving constraint satisfaction problems.

This paper focuses on rules in Non-deterministic Information Systems (NISs). On the basis of the information incompleteness in NISs, it is possible to define new criteria of rules, i.e., minimum support, maximum support, minimum accuracy and maximum accuracy. Two strategies of rule generation are proposed based on these criteria. The first strategy is Lower Approximation Strategy, which defines rule generation under the worst condition. The second strategy is Upper Approximation Strategy, which defines rule generation under the best condition. To implement these strategies, we extended Apriori algorithm to an algorithm in NISs. A prototype system is implemented, and this system is applied to some data sets with non-deterministic information.

Rough set theory has mainly been applied to data with categorical values. In order to handle data with numerical values, we define numerical patterns with two symbols # and @, and propose more flexible rough sets based rule generation. The concepts of coarse and fine for rules are explicitly defined according to numerical patterns. This paper focuses on the rough sets based method for rule generation, which is enhanced by numerical patterns, and refers to the tool programs. Tool programs are applied to data in UCI Machine Learning Repository, and some useful rules are obtained.

In order to develop intellectual knowledge base systems, it is necessary for us to use knowledge which may have incompleteness in the logic programming. For this issue, we propose a framework named LPII(Logic Programming with Incomplete Information), which is an advancement from the logic programming. In the LPII, we integrate several concepts from disjunctive logic programming and relational databases with imcomplete information. A program clause is made by substituting disjunctions of atomic formulas for atomic formulas in every definite clause. The defined program clauses are more expressive than definite clauses. For the defined program, we need theorem provers depending on the interpretation to disjunctions of atomic formulas. In this paper, we focus on the semantics for LPII, Finally, we refer to the theorem provers briefly.

     More details

    Grant number:05780298  1993.04 - 1994.03   奨励研究(A)

     More details
