    Faddeev calculations of hypertriton separation energy are performed, incorporating 2pi-exchange LambdaNN three-baryon force. Repulsive contributions of the three-baryon force in the order of 20 keV are found, depending on the NN interactions employed. The effect is not negligible compared with the small separation-energy of hypertriton.

    We build a relativistic model to perform calculations of exclusive, semi-exclusive and inclusive unpolarized cross sections and various polarization observables in electron and neutrino scattering experiments with deuteron targets. The strong interaction dynamics is defined by an explicit dynamical unitary representation of the Poincare group, where representations of space translations and rotations in the interacting and non-interacting representations are the same. The Argonne V18 potential is used to construct a relativistic nucleon-nucleon interaction reproducing the experimental deuteron binding energy and nucleon-nucleon scattering observables. Our formalism does not include the pion production channel and neglects two-body contributions in the electromagnetic as well as in the weak nuclear current operator. We show that it is applicable to processes at kinematics, where the internal two-nucleon energy remains below the pion production threshold but the magnitude of the three-momentum transfer extends at least to several GeV.

    The π#U-#UR + #U2#URH→n+n, π#U-#UR +#U3#URH→n+n+n, π#U−#UR + #U3#URHe→n+d and π#U−#UR +#U3#URHe→p+n+n
    capture reactions from the lowest 1S atomic orbitals are studied under full inclusion of final state interactions. Our results are obtained with the single-nucleon and two-nucleon transition operators derived at leading order in chiral effective field theory. The initial and final three-nucleon states are calculated with the chiral nucleon-nucleon SMS potential up to N#U4#UR LO#U+#UR augmented by the consistently regularized chiral N#U2#URLO three-nucleon potential. We found that absorption rates depend strongly on the nuclear pion absorption operator used, and its two-body parts change the rates by a few orders of magnitude. The final state interactions between nucleons generated by the two-nucleon forces are also important, while the three-nucleon interaction plays a visible role only in the π#U−#UR+#U3#URHe→n+d reaction. Our absorption rate for the π#U−#UR +#U2#URH→n+n process is in good agreement with the experimental data from the hadronic ground-state broadening in pionic deuterium. The capture rates on #U3#UR He are also generally consistent with the spectroscopic data within error bars, though our central values are found to be systematically below the data. We show that for the three-body breakup processes the dominant contributions to the absorption rates arise from the quasi-free scattering and final-state interaction kinematical configurations.

    We present a comprehensive investigation of few-nucleon systems as well as light and medium-mass nuclei up to A=48 using the current Low Energy Nuclear Physics International Collaboration two-nucleon interactions in combination with the third-order (N#U2#URLO) three-nucleon forces. To address the systematic overbinding of nuclei starting from A∼10 found in our earlier study utilizing the N^2LO two- and three-nucleon forces, we take into account higher-order corrections to the two-nucleon potentials up through fifth order in chiral effective field theory. The resulting Hamiltonian can be completely determined using the A=3 binding energies and selected nucleon-deuteron cross sections as input. It is then shown to predict other nucleon-deuteron scattering observables and spectra of light p-shell nuclei, for which a detailed correlated truncation error analysis is performed, in agreement with experimental data. Moreover, the predicted ground state energies of nuclei in the oxygen isotopic chain from #U14#URO to #U26#URO as well as #U40#URCa and #U48#URCa show a remarkably good agreement with experimental values, given that the Hamiltonian is fixed completely from the A≤3 data, once the fourth-order (N#U3#URLO) corrections to the two-nucleon interactions are taken into account. On the other hand, the charge radii are found to be underpredicted by ∼10% for the oxygen isotopes and by almost 20% for #U40#URCa and #U48#URCa.

    An expression of partial wave expansion of three-baryon interactions in chiral effective field theory is presented. The derivation follows the method by Hebeler et al. [Phys. Rev. C91 , 044001 (2015)], but the final expression is more general. That is, a systematic treatment of the higher-rank spin-momentum structure of the interaction becomes possible. Using the derived formula, a Λ-deuteron folding potential is evaluated. This information is valuable for inferring the possible contribution of the ΛNN three-baryon forces to the hypertriton as the basis of further studies by sophisticated Faddeev calculations. A microscopic understanding of ΛNN three-baryon forces together with two-body ΛN interactions is essential for the description of hypernuclei and neutron-star matter.

    The Kharkov potential is a recent field theoretical model of nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction that has been built up in the framework of the instant form of relativistic dynamics starting with the total Hamiltonian of interacting meson and nucleon fields and using the method of unitary clothing transformations. The latter connect the representation of “bare” particles (BPR) and the representation of “clothed” particles (CPR), i.e., the particles with physical properties. Unlike our preceding explorations we show fresh results with the best-fit values for adjustable parameters revisited.

    We construct a folding potential between the α and Λ particles based on underlying nucleon-nucleon and hyperon-nucleon interactions. Starting from a phenomenological Λ-N potential and a Gaussian form of
    the α-particle wave function we obtain the α-Λ potential and with this potential the binding energy of #A5(/)Λ#ARHe is (3.10 MeV), which is consistent with recent experimental data 3.12±0.02 MeV. When in turn an exact solution of the four-body Faddeev-Yakubovsky equation for the α-particle calculated with the CDBonn, Nijmegen or Argonne V18 realistic nucleon-nucleon potential is used and the phenomenological Gaussian -N potential is replaced by the realistic (e.g. Nijmegen NSC97f) potential approximated by a rank-1 separable form, then #A5(/)Λ#ARHe is overbound. In particular, its binding energy given by the folding potential generated with the α particle wave function based on the CDBonn potential is 7.47 MeV. Although the rank-1 separable -N potential reproduces the exact scattering length and the effective range of the original Λ-N potential, the Λ-α folding potential results from these Λ-N potential give a large binding energy of#A5(/)Λ#ARHe.

    We define a full symmetrizer (antisymmetrizer) S#DN#DR for a system of N identical bosons (fermions), which can be built recursively as a product of (N − 1) simple permutation operators (1 + kετ#Dk#DR ), 1 ≤ k < N, and the operator S#DN−1#DR : S#DN#DR = (1 + ετ#D1#DR)(1 + 2ετ#D2#DR)···(1 + (N − 1)ετ#DN−1#DR)S#DN−1#DR/N!, where τ#Dk#DR denotes the transposition P#Dk,k+1#DR and ε = 1(−1) for identical bosons (fermions). Using this form of S#DN#DR we could rewrite the N-body Faddeev equation as ψ = (#AN(/)2#AR ) G#D0#DR V S#DN#DRψ, where ψ, (#An(/)k#AR ), G#D0#DR and V are the Faddeev component, the standard binomial coefficient, the N-body Green's function and the two-body potential, respectively. Our formulation of the N-body Faddeev equation can be naturally extended to include three- and other many-body forces. We demonstrate that the proposed form of S#DN#DR significantly simplifies the process of building the N-body wave function.

    We present a systematic investigation of few-nucleon systems and light nuclei using the current Low Energy Nuclear Physics International Collaboration interactions comprising semilocal momentum-space regularized two- and three-nucleon forces up to third chiral order (N2LO). Following our earlier study utilizing the coordinate-space regularized interactions, the two low-energy constants entering the three-body force are determined from the triton binding energy and the differential cross-section minimum in elastic nucleon-deuteron scattering. Predictions are made for selected observables in elastic nucleon deuteron scattering and in the deuteron breakup reactions, for properties of the A=3 and A=4 nuclei, and for spectra of p-shell nuclei up to A=16. A comprehensive error analysis is performed including an estimation of correlated truncation uncertainties for nuclear spectra. The obtained predictions are generally found to agree with experimental data within errors. Similarly to the coordinate-space regularized chiral interactions at the same order, a systematic overbinding of heavier nuclei is observed, which sets in for A∼10 and increases with A.

    We report observation of possible new evidence for tensor interactions from 16O(p,dN) measurements at 392-MeV proton under quasi-free scattering kinematics but at scattering angle relevant to neutron pick up mechanism. The strong isospin dependence at large momentum transfer indicate the presence of high-momentum protons and neutrons induced by the tensor interactions in 16O.

    The need of a better understanding of the weak interaction and the electro-weak unification triggered in the last decades an interest in neutrino scattering off nuclei.     We discuss the current status of chiral effective field theory in the three-nucleon sector and present selected results for nucleon-deuteron scattering observables based on semilocal momentum-space-regularized chiral two-nucleon potentials together with consistently regularized three-nucleon forces up to third chiral order. Using a Bayesian model for estimating truncation errors, the obtained results are found to provide a good description of the experimental data. We confirm our earlier findings that a high-precision description of nucleon-deuteron scattering data below pion production threshold will require the theory to be pushed to fifth chiral order. This conclusion is substantiated by an exploratory study of selected short-range contributions to the three-nucleon force at that order, which, as expected, are found to have significant effects on polarization observables at intermediate and high energies. We also outline the challenges that will need to be addressed in order to push the chiral expansion of three-nucleon scattering observables to higher orders.

    We present selected results of theoretical investigations of three-nucleon systems which have been pursued in Kraków for more than thirty years. The Kraków–Bochum group has gathered a lot of experience related to investigations of elastic nucleon–deuteron scattering and nucleon-induced deuteron breakup processes. These investigations are based on rigorous solutions of the 3N Faddeev equations in momentum space and aim to understand the properties of two- and three nucleon forces. Since the late1980s, very many different models of nuclear potentials, including several generations of the forces derived within chiral effective field theory, have been put to stringent tests. Beside pure three-nucleon reactions, our Faddeev framework has been used to describe many electroweak processes, where the initial-state or final-state interactions among three-nucleons are very important. Our theoretical results need to be confronted with precision experimental data, so collaboration with many experimental groups all over the world is crucial for our research.

    We investigated three-nucleon (3N) force effects in the final state interaction (FSI) configuration of the d(n, nn)p breakup reaction at the incoming nucleon energy En= 200MeV. Although 3N force effects for the elastic nucleon-deuteron scattering cross section at comparable energies are located predominantly in the region of intermediate and backward angles, the corresponding 3N force effects for the integrated FSI configuration breakup cross section are found also at forward scattering angles.

    For several decades there has been an interest in studying neutrino scattering on light nuclei, with the hope of increasing knowledge about the theory of weak interactions and electroweak unification. A study of several neutrino induced reactions on light nuclei (2H, 3H and 3He) is presented here. The cross section for these reactions is evaluated using the nuclear response functions, which holds the information about the nuclear interactions and structure. This approach has been tested for break-up reactions on the deuteron before and is now extended to three-nucleon break-up reactions.

    Results presented in this contribution are obtained within the Low Energy Nuclear Physics International Collaboration (LENPIC). LENPIC aims to develop chiral nucleon-nucleon and many-nucleon interactions complete through at least the fourth order in the chiral expansion. These interactions will be used together with consistently derived current operators to solve the structure and reactions of light and medium-mass nuclei including electroweak processes. In this contribution the current status of the chiral nuclear forces and current operators will be briefly discussed. A special role played by the calculations of nucleon-deuteron scattering will be explained.

    The proximity of the η N threshold to the mass of the N⁎(1535) allows us to consider the η-nucleus interaction below the η threshold as a series of excitations, decays of the N⁎ on the constituent nucleons and the eventual decay of the N⁎ to a nucleon and a pion. Experimental searches for η-mesic nuclei rely on this model in their analysis of data where an η-mesic nucleus could have been formed. However, the momentum distribution of an N⁎ is often approximated to be the same as that of a nucleon inside the nucleus. Our aim is to obtain an estimate of the error introduced by this assumption and hence we calculate the momentum distribution of the N⁎ formed inside 3He. This distribution is found to be narrower than that of a nucleon inside 3He. The latter affects the outgoing particles kinematics and reduces the determined acceptance of their experimental registration by the detection setup. This reduction is crucial for the determination of cross sections in the search for η-mesic helium.

    The possibility for the existence of the exotic NNN∗ states is explored with the objective of calculating the N∗ momentum distribution inside such nuclei. Even though the latter is an essential ingredient for the analysis of the experimental data on the pd→ pdπ0, pd→ pppπ− and pd→ pnnπ+ reactions aimed at finding an η-mesic 3 He, the data analysis is usually performed by approximating the N∗ momentum distribution by that of a nucleon. Here, we present calculations performed by solving the three-body Faddeev equations to obtain the momentum distribution of the N∗ inside possible (N∗)+ np,(N∗) 0np and (N∗)+-d states. The N∗ momentum distributions are found to be much narrower than those of the nucleons and influence the data selection criteria.

    We report on a precise measurement of double-polarization asymmetries in electron-induced breakup of He3 proceeding to pd and ppn final states, performed in quasi-elastic kinematics at Q2=0.25(GeV/c)2 for missing momenta up to 250MeV/c . These observables represent highly sensitive tools to investigate the electromagnetic and spin structure of He3 and the relative importance of two- and three-body effects involved in the breakup reaction dynamics. The measured asymmetries cannot be satisfactorily reproduced by state-of-the-art calculations of He3 unless their three-body segment is adjusted, indicating that the spin-dependent part of the nuclear interaction governing the three-body breakup process is much smaller than previously thought.
