The structure of the disordered gain media for a two-dimensional random laser was designed to achieve the specified emission spectrum by treating the scattering medium as deterministic cavities. A checkerboard distribution of scattering elements allows structural optimization of the scatterer array using a direct binary search method. Simulation results show that the emitted light can be concentrated in the specified wavelength bands. The effects of scatterer size and fabrication errors on the optimized emission spectrum were also investigated.

A method to change the scatterer distribution of a random laser medium using the optical trapping technique is proposed. By focusing trapping beams into small regions of the scattering medium, some scattering particles are concentrated in those regions, causing inhomogeneous distribution of scatterers. We investigate the effect of the scatterer distribution formed by optical trapping on the emission spectrum of a random laser. Experimental results show that the spectral spike intensity of random lasers with trapped particles is higher than that for the random lasers without trapped particles. Furthermore, the spectral spike intensity depends on the power of the trapping spot. The relationship between the number and the intensity of spikes in the emission spectra shows a feature observed in other random lasers with inhomogeneous scatterer distributions.

A method to control the random laser action of particle-dispersed media using the optical trapping technique is proposed. By focusing a trapping beam into a small region of the scattering medium, some of the scattering particles are trapped in that region, causing the distribution of scatterers inhomogeneous. According to the experimental results, the emission intensity of the spectral peak varies, depending on whether the trapping beam is on or off. Other spectral features caused by the particle trapping are also examined.

The two-dimensional structure of a random gain medium was designed to obtain the specified emission spectrum from a random laser. Structural optimization was performed using a direct binary search method. The simulation results showed that the emitted light can be concentrated within one or more specific wavelength ranges. The effect of the fabrication errors on the optimized laser emission spectrum was also examined.

<p>Optical trapping and guiding using laser have been proven to be useful for non-contact and non-invasive manipulation of small objects such as biological cells, organelles within cells, and dielectric particles. We have numerically investigated so far the motion of a Brownian particle suspended in still water under illumination of a speckle pattern generated by interference of coherent light scattered by a rough object. In the present study, we numerically investigate the motion of titanium dioxide particles in a photo-curing resin under the illumination of a speckle pattern. Trajectory of the particle is simulated in relation to its size and, power and size of the speckle grains to confirm the feasibility of the present method for performing optical trapping and guiding of the particle in the photo-curing resin. The present method is expected to be applied to the fabrication of a random laser medium.</p>

The properties of incoherent-feedback random lasing are investigated for dye-doped polymer random media in which non-scattering regions are distributed. Experimental results show that for random media with inhomogeneous structures, the spectral peak intensity increases and the spectral width decreases compared to a homogeneous medium with the same transport mean free path.

For increasing the data density of holographic data storage (HDS), combining more than two multiplexing techniques is effective. This is also true in self-referential holographic data storage (SR-HDS) that enables holographic recording purely with a single beam. In this paper, a focus-shift multiplexing technique is applied to xy-shift multiplexed SR-HDS, the feasibility of which has been shown in our previous work. The focus-shift multiplexing technique enables the multiplexing of datapages by slightly changing the focal length of the objective lens. However, the required focus-shift distance for multiplexing and the implementation method of the focus-shift have not been clarified. First, the focus-shift selectivity is investigated by the numerical simulations. In the case where the focus-shift multiplexing technique is applied to xy-shift multiplexed SR-HDS, the inter-page crosstalk properties are clarified to decide the recording layout that can achieve a low-crosstalk readout. Second, the technique of displaying an additional phase pattern onto the spatial light modulator (SLM) is introduced, which is a focus-shift method without any special optical components, such as varifocal lenses. Finally, we investigate the relationship between the accuracy of the focus-shift and the parameters of SLM.

A three-dimensional (3D) shift multiplexing technique is applied to increase the number of multiplexed datapages in self-referential holographic data storage (SR-HDS), enabling holographic recording with purely one-beam geometry. In the 3D shift multiplexing technique, the recording medium is shifted not only along the x-and y-axes but also along the z-axis to multiplex the datapages. Because the shift directions in the 3D shift multiplexing technique are expanded compared with the conventional 2D technique, the number of multiplexed datapages is expected to be increased. We numerically clarify the appropriate 3D recording layout of holograms in which the effect of the inter-page crosstalk can be reduced after showing that datapages are multiplexed on shifting the recording medium along the z-axis. The results show 3D shift multiplexing can effectively realize high-density SR-HDS when appropriately designed layouts are used.

媒質中の光の伝搬および散乱は，色材を扱う分野をはじめとして多くの分野で重要な研究テーマとなっている。その解を与える光学理論は，幾何光学から量子光学まで，解析対象の性質に応じてさまざまなものが構築されてきた。波長に比べて十分に大きなスケールしかもたないものであれば，光を光線とみなして反射・屈折を議論すれば十分である。しかし，小さなスケールになるとそれでは説明が付かない現象があらわれる。この場合，光をスカラー波やベクトル波として取り扱う必要が生じる。本稿では，光を波動や電磁波として解析するための理論的な取り扱いについて説明する。また，数値解析を行うための手法の一つである，時間領域差分法を紹介する。

As the fundamental evaluations of the proposed method, we focus on the multiplexing properties along the z-axis. 参照光を必要としないホログラム記録光学系である自己参照型ホログラフィ(SRH)について,情報の記録再生方法と原理およびその特性について概説する.また,読み出し品質を向上させるために,SRHの記録および読み出し過程に関する詳細な数値シミュレーションを行った.記録媒質中でのホログラムの分布をなるべく均等に拡散させる方法として,記録媒質外部に焦点を配置する方法と高精細なAdditionalパターンを信号パターンとともに使用する方法を新たに提案し,読み出し品質を劇的に向上させることに成功したので報告する.
