© 2015 IEEE. This paper analyses and evaluates the amount of solar radiation based on Digital Surface Model (DSM) information by using Geographic Information System (GIS). This study has developed an apparatus to evaluate suitable places for Photovoltaic (PV) panel installation based on the amount of solar radiation analysis. In this study, the area of Kitakyushu city is selected to be evaluated by the proposed tool as an example in the sense that PV panels can be installed optimally. The results show that the proposed tool based on DSM information by using GIS can precisely determine the amount of solar radiation considering the solar orbit under the condition of no clouds, and evaluate an optimum location for PV installation. In the future the results can be applied to a PV power generation analysis after superimposing a present weather condition or weather forecasting data.

Integration of Distributed Renewable Generation (DRG) to the future Smart Grid (SG) is one of the important considerations that is highly prioritized in the SG development roadmap by most of the countries including Malaysia. The plausible way of this integration is the enhancement of information and bidirectional communication infrastructure for energy monitoring and controlling facilities. However, urgency of data delivery through maintaining critical time condition is not crucial in these facilities. In this paper, we have surveyed state-of-the-art protocols for different Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) with the aim of realizing communication infrastructure for DRG in Malaysia. Based on the analytical results from surveys, data communication for DRG should be efficient, flexible, reliable, cost effective, and secured. To meet this achievement, IEEE802.15.4 supported ZigBee PRO protocol together with sensors and embedded system is shown as Wireless Sensor (WS) for DRG bidirectional network with prospect of attaining data monitoring facilities. The prospect towards utilizing ZigBee PRO protocol can be a cost effective option for full integration of intelligent DRG and small scale Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV)/Feed-in-Tariff (FiT) under SG roadmap (Phase4: 2016-2017) conducted by Malaysia national utility company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). Moreover, we have provided a direction to utilize the effectiveness of ZigBee-WS network with the existing optical communication backbone for data importing from the end DRG site to the TNB control center. A comparative study is carried out among developing countries on recent trends of SG progress which reveals that some common projects like smart metering and DRG integration are on priority.

© 2015 IEEE. Network reliability of distribution system is one of the key performance indices to be realized with many efforts. Installing Distribution Generation (DG) on radial distribution network closer to the customers is one of the efforts, which can improve the indices. This paper will present a GA method to determine the best location and capacity of DG placement with minimum power losses as an objective function to achieve optimum result. By DG placement in the network, except improve the voltage profile and power losses also the reliability indices such as SAIDI, SAIFI and EENS. Therefore the reliability will experience an improvement than before. For calculating and analyzing the reliability indices it uses ETAP 12.6 software which is separate analysis with determine the position and capacity optimization method. This concept will realize by simulating in the 132 bus radial distribution system and considering into two schemes, the base load scheme and full load scheme.

By using some devices such as recloser and sectionalizing switch will reduce the amount of interrupted load during the fault. However, improvement of reliability need a cost, it can be said that reliability of the system and investment cost is comparable. In this paper, reliability of distribution network is assessed by considering reliability cost worth. A methodology based on cost worth analysis for optimal switch placement in distribution system network is proposed. This paper study has been conducted on the existing of Indonesian radial electrical distribution network.

This paper presents a simple analysis tool for torsional vibration of the rotor shaft of a turbine generator which is interconnected with a power system with self-commutated converters. The evaluation is based on analysis of measurement data in the field and instantaneous value-based power system simulation. A number of power converters with large capacity are installed in industrial power systems. Especially, interharmonics originating from self-commutated converters cause torsional vibration at the rotor shaft of rotating machines. The interaction between rotating machines and converters is known as sub-synchronous torsional interaction. The resonance between interharmonics from converters and the natural frequency of the rotor shaft causes large torsional vibrations, leading to shaft damage. In this paper, the influence of interharmonics on turbine generators is investigated. If there were air gap torque fluctuations with a frequency near the natural frequency caused by interharmonics, which have frequencies below 100 Hz of the sideband wave caused by asynchronous pulse width modulation, the rotor shaft may be damaged by the torsional vibration. In this paper, the emerging condition of the torsional vibration and the impact on the generator are investigated.
