An artificial neural network−pharmacokinetic model and its interpretation using Shapley additive explanations 査読有り

We developed a method to apply artificial neural networks (ANNs) for predicting time-series pharmacokinetics (PKs), and an interpretable the ANN-PK model, which can explain the evidence of prediction by applying Shapley additive explanations (SHAP). A previous population PK (PopPK) model of cyclosporin A was used as the comparison model. The patients’ data were used for the ANN-PK model input, and the output by ANN was the clearance (CL). The estimated CL value from the ANN were substituted into the one-compartment with one-order absorption model, the concentrations were calculated, and the parameters of ANN were updated by the back-propagation method. Kernel SHAP was applied to the trained model and the SHAP value of each input was calculated. The root mean squared error for the PopPK model and the ANN-PK model were 41.1 and 31.0 ng/ml, respectively. The goodness of fit plots for the ANN-PK model represented more convergence to y = x compared with that for the PopPK model, with good model performance for the ANN-PK model. The most influential factors on CL output were age and body weight from the evaluation using Kernel SHAP, and these factors were incorporated into the PopPK model as the significant covariates of CL. The ANN-PK model could handle time-series data and showed higher prediction accuracy then the conventional PopPK model, and the scientific validity for the model could be evaluated by applying SHAP. Study Highlights WHAT IS THE CURRENT KNOWLEDGE ON THE TOPIC? A black-box property of an artificial neural network (ANN) decreases the scientific confidence of the model, and making it difficult to utilize the ANN in the medical field. Moreover, difficulty in handling the time-series data is a significant problem for applying the ANN for pharmacometrics study. WHAT QUESTION DID THIS STUDY ADDRESS? How can we apply the ANN for predicting the time-series pharmacokinetics (PKs), and confirm the scientific validity of the ANN model? WHAT DOES THIS STUDY ADD TO OUR KNOWLEDGE? Using the ANN in combination with a conventional compartment (ANN-PK) model enabled to handle the time-series PK data, and the predicting performance of the model was higher than that of the population PK model. Furthermore, we could evaluate the scientific validity of the ANN model by applying the Shapley additive explanations. HOW MIGHT THIS CHANGE DRUG DISCOVERY, DEVELOPMENT, AND/OR THERAPEUTICS? We expect that our study will contribute to develop the interpretable ANN model, which can predict the time-series PKs, drug efficacies, and side effects with high prediction performance.

Dementia patients have increased year by year in many developed countries. We need to solve this problem. The questionnaire method is generally used for present dementia screening. However, this method requires time for 10 to 15 minutes with a doctor and a clinical psychologist, which puts a burden on hospitals and test subjects. For this reason, we propose a detecting method using deep learning by means of 1d CNN-LSTM to construct a dementia discriminant system using speech voice. Our method obtained the Accuracy of 0.908 and the F-measure of 0.897.

On the train, announcement speech is one of the important information to know the operation status. However, clarity of announcement speech is not enough because announcement speech is masked by noise. Therefore, new system is proposed to improve clarity of announcement speech based on sound classification. By classifying several sounds, users can select the announcement speech only they want to hear. In this paper, classifier is developed that distinguishes announcement speech using SVM. In the experiments, this classifier obtain that the accuracy of developed classifier is 96%.

Today, information devices such as smartphones have become indispensable in our daily life. As a result, the increased use of information devices has led to the accumulation of eye strain and the development of various eye diseases. As the accumulation of eye-fatigue is manifested in the change in the number of blinks, blink detection technology is necessary. In the previous paper, we proposed a highly accurate blink detection method called EARM. However, there is a problem with this technique, which is that the noise generated by the movement of the face can reduce the accuracy of blink detection. In this study, we used face image normalization to improve the blink detection system by reducing the noise associated with face movement. We found that the proposed system outperformed the results of blink detection accuracy using EARM in all subjects.

Back pain is widespread in Japan in recent years. The economic loss from back pain in Japan was 82.1 billion yen in 2011. Therefore, it is necessary to construct a low back pain prevention system that can be easily used. First, system estimate the body part from the image using OPENPOSE. It extract the five coordinates (neck, shoulders, and buttocks) from the output. It calculate the z coordinate of each point. Finally, It estimate the front-back tilt and the left-right tilt. We compare three distances (2 m, 3.5 m, 5 m) and three angles (20°, 0°, −20°) in experiments. Review the results. In the distance, the discrimination rates are 2 m: 83%, 3.5 m: 99%, 5 m: 66%. Next, regarding the angle, the discrimination system was good in the order of 20°, 0°, 20°.

Nowadays there are many opportunities to communicate in situations where there is only speaking voice, such as over the phone. So we are necessary to understand the other’s emotions from only audio information in such situations. A service recognizing the other’s emotions from audio information has developed. However, its accuracy is not so high and it cannot classify many types of emotions. Therefore, we introduce the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architectures that can classify 9 types of emotions. In this paper, we propose and compare 3 different CNN architectures. Especially, the C-NN architecture with convolutions of time and frequency axis separately achieved the best performance. Then we applied Grad-CAM to this architecture, and we found that our CNNs predicted emotions from speech intonations.

© 2020. We address trade of between low latency and high accuracy for tactile image recognition using a random-dot sensor on embedded systems. Convolutional neural networks are developed deeper and more complicated to achieve higher accuracy, but realworld applications such as mobiles and embedded systems have a fixed resource budget. The resource-constrained platforms need to be driven in a timely fashion and keep high correctness to build an efficient convolutional neural network. We propose an efficient model based on a shrinking technique in order to manage the multi-objectives, that are low latency in embedded systems and an accurate model. The shrinking technique takes advantage of high accurate pretrained networks and reduces the number of parameters and number of operations. We not only provide faster and smaller model but also increase accuracy. We measured performance on tactile image for accuracy and Jetson TX2 for latency. The result showed that latency decreased by 28.3 percent, but high accuracy. ICIC International

© 2020 ISSN. The number of visually impaired tends to increase in the future. They have many accidents when walking outdoors and the demand for walking support system development is high. They walk on a Braille block by relying on a white stick or guide dog. However, there is a problem that they collide without noticing the obstacle on Braille block. In this paper, we propose the construction of a system that detects and notifies obstacles by combining existing devices and models to prevent collision accident. The proposed device is built on Jetson TX2 and uses a stereo camera ZED Mini that provides depth image. The object detection part is real-time object detection system that is the learned model. Voice from a wearable speaker through a smartphone notifies the location of obstacle. Demonstration test confirms the usefulness of this device.

The important factors of the chronic kidney disease have been clarified by long-term clinical studies. In this paper, we propose a new method to discover important factors inherent to the chronic kidney disease patients composed by Topological Data Analysis (TDA) and Layer-wise Relevance Propagation (LRP). With the progress of medicine, the average life span of people is on the rise. In order to investigate the cause of the disease, the patient’s data is obtained by blood collection and then the treatment is performed. From the data obtained by blood collection, it is judged whether it is sick or not. By comparing physical characteristics between patients with specific symptoms and healthy people, it is possible to find out the cause of symptoms and to early detect symptoms. In this paper, we use data on liver disease patients. We construct an over-learning model of binary classification, and create two membership functions for each input size. And it determines the important factors that become the basis of classification by LRP method.

© 2020 IEEE. How to input characters without mistakes is one of very important points for the interface, when we consider usability of electronic devices such as personal computers and smartphones. Therefore, in this paper, we examine whether we can classify mistypes for Japanese input and inform the users how they make mistakes using 'Attention' and 'LSTM' of machine learning methods. First, we classified the category of mistypes in Japanese input into seven types (Replacement, Removal, Exchange, Insertion, Involvement, Repetition). Second, we asked subjects to input the displayed words and collected their data. Next, we classified the data and labeled it. Finally, we made the Neural Network (LSTM + Attention) to classify the mistype data and inform how they make mistakes. As a result, the correct answer rate of the Neural Network (LSTM + Attention) was about 70% and we were able to know where point the Neural Network focus on by putting in 'Attention'. We are planning to use 'LSTM' to correct mistype directly and use 'Attention' to inform how they frequently make mistakes in the future.

© 2020 IEEE. Voice is very important in our daily life. However, some people cannot speak because of throat surgery. Electrolarynx (EL) is a way for them to speak again but this voice is flat and noisy like a buzzer. Therefore, we propose a new Electrolarynx system based on WaveRNN. When we use it, the EL voice is converted into a voice close to the natural voice. We assume that this system will be provided as a smartphone application. In the experiment, we evaluated the converted voice by the system and found that naturalness improved.

Drug administration is performed by various treatments. Drug administration is not easy, and there is a high risk of side effects and sequelae if there are errors in the plans such as dosage and administration inter val. Therefore, it is important to estimate the blood drug concentration in advance. In previous studies, the use of neural networks has made it possible to exceed the prediction accuracy of drug motion analysis proposed in the field of pharmacy. However, the blood drug concentrations recorded in the data used are few and biased. In this study, in order to estimate the blood drug concentration using a small number of data with a biased data distribution, a method to equalize the data by removing the data in the large part of the data distribution and A method is used to equalize the data by using GAN (Generative Adversarial Network) to generate pseudo data using the data in the area where the data distribution is small and adding the generated data as training data of the original data.

Efficient and Small Network Using Multi-Trim Network Structure for Tactile Object Recognition on Embedded Systems 査読有り

Tactile object recognition (TOR) is critical in robot perception. However, as an embedded system, a robot brain has a fixed resource budget and is unsuitable for modern convolutional neural networks (CNNs). To bridge this gap, we present a simple network-compression approach that improves the accuracy-latency trade-off of the network. The multi-trim network structure (MTNS) is a robust combination of network compression (NC) techniques providing a lightweight network with no performance drop. Furthermore, as an optical tactile sensor, we present a random-dot sensor that obtains rich information with a single touch, thus avoiding modality fusion. The random-dot sensor captures the object shapes and inputs them to TOR. In an experimental evaluation, we compare the performances of the proposed MTNS approach with those of CNN filter pruning, the network quantization technique, an adaptive mixture of low-rank factorizations, and knowledge distillation. The MTNS better resolved the accuracy-latency trade-off in tactile object recognition than the modern NC methods. By combining the random-dot sensor and MTNS approach, TOR enhances the accuracy and processing time performances.

There are dangerous tasks in the factory production process. Therefore, industrial robots are used. However, it is a reality that even either an injury or death is caused by an accident. Currently, contact-type sensors for directly pressing an object on a sensor unit have been developed. This sensor can recognize the direction of pressure or force applied to the object and the hardness of the object. By using the contact sensor, it is possible to grasp everything like a person. However, it cannot know at what position of the sensor how much pressure is applied. In this study, we developed a random dot type contact sensor that can estimate the pressure distribution. The heat map of pressure distribution was created using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for the change image of the taken sensor part.

We are developing a walking support device for the visually impaired. Real-time detection based on camera images using 5G communication with the client server system. At this stage, it performs object recognition, deviation detection, step detection, and warns the user with voice output. We will investigate the recognition accuracy of the newly added deviation detection and step detection. Compare the 5G environment with 4G and examine the practicality of the development device.

© 2019 IEEE. Surface-Defect segmentation plays an important role. It is very necessary to detect on products during production process. Though there are several previous works in surface-defect segmentation, it needs high handcraft skill. We address automatic segmentation algorithm in surface using U-shape inverted residuals to achieve end-to-end learning network. A proposed method is data acquisition, surface-defect segmentation network creation and training. First, the experimental image is augmented by image processing technique, such as rotation, flip, translation, skew and zoom in, which is randomly augmented. Second, U-shape inverted residuals segmentation network is created by changing backbone of encoder and reconstructs decoder by inverted of encoder in order to improve performance of segmentation network. In the final step, the training step of the proposed network is set. To evaluate the performance of the proposed network, each plastic hose tip and dental caries 10, 000 image are used to compare between proposed network and Unet [15]. From the experiment, Dice score and IoU are 77.11% and 62.75% in plastic hose tip, respectively. In dental caries problem, Dice score and IoU are 84.16% and 72.65%, respectively. The results show that the proposed network is satisfactory and able to be improved for higher performance. Advantages of the method are that it avoids handcraft feature extraction and is automatically learning.

© 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG. The purpose of this study is to assist the visually impaired to develop applications. There is a method for the visually impaired to develop applications by reading program codes with screen reader. In this method, the visually impaired can read code on line by line and select a line by knocking the up and down arrow key on the keyboard. After that, they can read the processing and describe an instruction before and after the processing. However, such an operation takes them a long time. Therefore, we suggested the system which let develop applications by editing flowcharts. This system converts program code into flowchart and read blocks in the flowchart. In this system, they can select blocks by knocking the left, right, up and down arrow key. We compared the time for rewriting programs between approach and the proposed system. As a result, the time reduced in all programs.

However, there are problems on the route, such as obstacles on the sidewalk Braille blocks. As a result, a traffic accident or a fall accident from the station’s platform has occurred. That is the cause many cases where people go out without worrying about troubles. In this research and development, those obstacles are detected using a stereo camera linked to a smartphone, and the content is guided to the user by a wearable speaker. In addition, the location of the user is captured by GPS and guided to the destination. There are two stages, one for “Mobility Support Service” and “Watch Over Service”.

In this paper, the horizontal sound image experiment of the real sound source was performed under the head resting condition using the band - limited noise using the low pass filter and the band pass filter. Then, the effect of each frequency band on direction perception of the hearing person and the elderly person was clarified. Five people with healthy men in their twenties and five elderly people in their 70s male hearing white noise pass through low-pass filters (2, 3, 4, 5, 6 kHz) and band-pass filters (1-4, 2-4, 2-5 [kHz]) passed through the directional perception experiment. As a result, similarly to the previous study [1], it is difficult to perceive directions sufficiently if two or more frequency bands are included, and it is difficult to perceive the direction of band-pass noise through a band-pass filter of a narrow frequency band. As a result of this research, Direction perception was found that the frequency band around 4 [kHz] and 6 [kHz] is small as an element of direction perception and the frequency band around 5 [kHz] is an important clue for direction perception.

Since it is difficult for them to deal with problems with their own power, it is necessary for surrounding people to support damage deterrence. So, we aim to realize a watching system that anyone can use if there is only a smart speaker. In this study, we propose a method to detect door-to-door sales from conversation information of elderly people and visitors with the aim of realizing a system to prevent elderly consumers' troubles. In the evaluation experiment, we evaluate how accurately door-to-door sales can be detected out of the conversation dataset. In addition, we try to determine the risk degree by learning the door-to-door sales sample data given the risk label.

For example, a collision with an obstacle such as a person or a wall, or a fall from the station platform. A current measure for this problem is a voice guidance. However, visually impaired people place importance on auditory information. Therefore, it is difficult for them to hear surrounding sounds during listening the voice guidance. There is a previous research that trying to guide the visually impaired people to their destination by vibration transmission. However, although this study have realized the guidance of the visually impaired people to their destination without interrupting environmental sounds, this method cannot correct the veering in real time. For above reason, we propose a veering correction system by vibration transmission, which does not disturb acquisition of auditory information. This is a system that gives them vibration by wearing a vibration motor on their shoulders and corrects the veering. In this article, we conducted verification experiment of the effectiveness of the veering correction by vibration transmission as a preliminary study in the development of the veering correction system. As a result of the research, we were able to keep the deviations from over 100 cm to less than 100 cm. As a conclusion, vibration transmission is effective as a method of correcting the veering of visually impaired people.

Secondary disasters such as tsunami and fire are the main causes of death due to the earthquake, both of which are causes of evacuation delay. Rapid evacuation is important in the event of a disaster. However, due to the earthquake, various obstacles will occur in the aisle. Obstacles may occur due to the collapse of houses due to the earthquake and it may take time to pass. If you can obtain information about the aisle in advance and avoid evacuation routes in advance, you can complete evacuation safer and more quickly. As a method of acquiring traffic information, We thought that the use of SNS is useful from the viewpoint of the real-time nature of information and the penetration rate of young people aggressively actively communicating information. In this research, we proposed an evacuation guidance system to evacuate users with a safe shortest route. Then we examined the danger of passing through obstacles. As a result, "road shredder" is evaluated as the most dangerous, and "road crack" is evaluated as the most secure.

On the other hand, the number of fatal accidents caused by trucks is more than 10,000 a year in Japan. Above all, there is a problem that there is an annual fatal and fatal accident due to truck load collapse. In this study, using the drive recorder, we calculated the inclination of the package photographed during driving by using KCF of object tracking method of image processing. Comparing the change of the Luggage tilt and the amount of change in 3-axis acceleration attached to the vehicle/ time of each frame in all the data, frames at each maximum value point almost agreed at the time of” When riding over convex part of inclined road”. On the other hand, “When a sudden steering wheel during driving”, a point where the absolute value of the change in package inclination during one frame reaches 0.005 ° and the point where the maximum change occurs after that. It almost coincided with the point where the curve was reached in the video. As for the 3-axis acceleration sensor, there is no difference in tendency between the curve and the straight running, and it is considered as the main cause that the influence of the roughness of the road is greatly influenced rather than the influence at the time of the curve.

In the train while driving, there are many noises such as noises from the vibration of the vehicle and the shock noise generated at the vehicle connection, and the roar of human beings, etc. In addition to stressing the passengers, these noises it prevents you from listening to the announcements in the train. In this paper, a new noise canceling earphone system aimed at improving in-car announcement speech listening and reducing stress that the noise gives to passengers by separating surrounding speech and in-train announcement speech regarded as noise I devised. In this study, as a preliminary step to complete the system, in order to find the difference between the ambient speech and the announcement speech such as the roar of the passenger, both speeches were compared using acoustic features. As a result, among the acoustic features used in the comparison, differences were found in the spectral centroid, the spectral roll-off, and the intensity and spectral contrast when divided into sub-bands.

These people are not able to make voice, so they have problems in communication. For example, they cannot communicate their will enough with communication by writing or gestures alone, thereby avoiding communication. However, they can move the mouth and tongue normally. Therefore, they speak using alternative vocalizations. Electrical artificial larynx (EL) is one of the alternative vocalizations. When the vibrator is pressed against the lower part of the jaw, the vibration sound is transmitted in the sound path. This speech method is easy to learn and is cleaner than other speech methods, but this voice sound is bad quality because it has no intonation and it is noisy. In this study, we tried to improve the EL sound quality by using WaveRNN that is one of Deep learning. After making WaveRNN learn human voice, we converted the EL voice. We evaluated the converted voice in a subjective evaluation experiment in 10 words that selected each consonant and vowels in a balanced manner. The evaluation items are: 1. Clarity of consonants, 2. Clarity of vowels, 3. Clarity of whole voice, 4. Natural, 5. Easy to hear. As a result, Clarity and naturalness of consonants improved in words containing two or more unvoiced consonants. On the other hand, in the voiced consonants and vowels, no improvement was seen by the proposed method. Therefore, we think that voice quality was improved in unvoiced consonants. On the other hand, there was no tendency for improvement in voiced consonants and vowels.

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an exercise on the people with autism spectrum disorder using the NeuCube spiking neural network (SNN) architecture. We collected EEG patterns during perception and imitation of facial expressions for each emotion. Comparing the collected data in perceiving and mimicking facial expressions, EEG patterns of typically developed person were very similar. This fact suggest that it seems that there are mirror neurons on facial expression in the human brain. Recently, some studies have been reported that mirror neuron system does not work well in the case of subjects with brain disorders. In this paper, we observed mirror neurons during normal perception and imitation of facial expressions in typically developed subjects (TP), ASD subjects who exercise regularly (ASDe), and ASD subjects who don't exercise regularly (ASDn). As a result of experiments, we confirmed the mirror neuron activities of ASDe subjects tend to be close to ones of TP subjects compared to ones of ASDn subjects. The results in the experiments imply the effects of regular exercise on autism spectrum disorder.

In recent years, the number of patients with chronic kidney disease in Japan has reached 13.3 million (1 in 8 of adults over 20 years old). The disease is said to be a new country illness. The important factors of the chronic kidney disease have been clarified by long-term clinical studies. In this paper, we propose a new methodology to discover important factors inherent to the chronic kidney disease patients consisted by Topological data analysis (TDA) and Layer-wise Relevance Propagation (LRP). To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, we compared the result obtained by our proposed method with the known important factors by the clinical studies.

Medical treatment cannot avoid the risk like side effects. In general, appropriate dosages and dosing intervals will vary among patients. The most important consideration in administration design is blood drug concentration of the patient, and it is necessary to estimate the concentration beforehand for the administration plan. However, since it is difficult to estimate personal blood drug concentration of patient, it is extremely difficult to precisely decide administration design. Additionally, observed data in pharmacy is value and few. In this study, we construct a Generative Adversarial Network model to generate similar data accurately. The proposed method can help training of Neural Network with small data and compared to models constructed in conventional studies and examined with methods. They are a statistical model and Neural Network model proposed in previous studies. As results, our model outperformed those methods．

We collected EEG patterns during perception and imitation of facial expressions for each emotion. Comparing the collected data in perceiving and mimicking facial expressions, EEG patterns were very similar. This fact suggests that it seems that there are mirror neurons on facial expression in the human brain. Recently, some studies have been reported that the mirror neuron system does not work well in the case of subjects with brain disorders. In this study, we calculated differences between EEG patterns when we perceived facial expressions and mimicking facial expressions for healthy people and developmental disorders.

© 2016 ICIC International. By using a neuromorphic computation, mirror neuron activities on facial expressions were examined. EEG data are collected during perceiving and mimicking different facial expressions corresponding to different emotions. As a result of neural computational visualization, an EEG in perceiving a particular facial expression and an EEG in mimicking the same facial expression with respect to a particular subject were quite similar. This fact suggests that a human mirror neuron system concerning a facial expression exists in each subject. Recently, some studies have reported that the mirror neuron system does not work well in the case of subjects with brain disorders. The study is indeed based on the well-known mirror neuron concept in the brain, but this is the first attempt to analyze and visualize similarities and differences as a neurocomputing based model.

As one of those changes, aged eyes have a different property in perceiving colors from younger eyes. In general, the elderly perceive images differently from the younger. To give the same perception for the same image as the younger, a different image from an original image needs to be displayed to the elderly. In this paper, a method of generating an inverse characteristic of the elderly image filter for color conversion is proposed. To this end, a neural network model is employed. The neural network is composed of 5 layers. The 5-layer neural network is divided into 2 blocks on the aspect of function. The lower and the upper layers play a role of simulating the image conversion and obtaining its opposite characteristic, respectively. The performance of the proposed framework is evaluated by the experiments on the image color pre-conversion for the elderly.

In this paper, we propose an algorithm of learning based image color transformation for colorblind considering discrimination of color boundary using a multilayer neural network. The symptoms of colorblind are due to an innate lack or deficit of cone cells that recognize colors, and people with colorblind have difficulty discriminating combinations of specific colors. Those people require color transformation for the presented image such that the image can be a perceptible color representation. In the proposed method, we design a multilayer neural network composed of three blocks: layers for image color transformation, layers for perceptual model of colorblind, and layers for color discrimination. In the proposed framework, a neural network learns a relationship of image data and a discrimination performance of colors in an image, and a color transformation rule is trained as a part of a neural network. To verify its effectiveness of the proposed method, we apply the method to the images having various colors.

This paper is a feasibility study of using the NeuCube spiking neural network (SNN) architecture for modeling EEG brain data related to perceiving versus mimicking facial expressions. It is demonstrated that the proposed model can be used to study the similarity and differences between corresponding brain activities as complex spatio-temporal patterns. Two SNN models are created for each of the 7 basic emotions for a group of Japanese subjects, one when subjects are perceiving an emotional face and another, when the same subjects are mimicking this emotion. The evolved connectivity in the two models are then subtracted to study the differences. Analysis of the models trained on the collected EEG data shows greatest similarity in sadness, and least similarity in happiness and fear, where differences in the T6 EEG channel area were observed. The study, being based on the well-known mirror neuron concept in the brain, is the first to analyze and visualize similarity and differences as evolved spatio-temporal patterns in a brain-like SNN model.

We did experiment in order to understand that if a person who sees the CG facial expression is entertain what feelings. Subjects saw the CG facial expression of the six basic emotions (Happy, Angry, Sad, Hate, Fear, Surprise) and evaluated their feelings by using the SAM (Self-assessment manikin). As a result, there was a difference in the influence of emotions that give the CG facial expressions that shows Fear, we found that the big difference is not seen in the other facial expression.

In this paper, we propose a novel digital image color conversion method for color blindness using a multilayer neural network. The people with color blindness have difficulty discriminating combinations of specific colors. Those people require color conversion for the presented image such that the image can be a perceptible color representation. In the proposed method, we design a multilayer neural network composed of three building blocks: layers for image color conversion, layers for perceptual simulation model of color blindness, and layers for color discrimination. In proposed framework, a neural network is learning about a relationship of an image data and a discrimination performance of colors in an image, and a color conversion rule is trained as a part of a neural network. To validate the effectiveness of proposed method, it is applied to several images that have various color combinations.

これまで,手話認識システムの研究は数多く行われている.しかし,日常的な使用を目的とした手話認識システムの研究は少ない.本稿では日常的な使用を目的とした,ウェアラブルかつカメラベースの手話認識手法を提案し,その認識精度を検証する.認識処理においては,SIFTマッチングを用いて毎フレームの手形状を判別し,その結果をHMMによって学習・認識する.また,本システムの有効性を検証するために手話単語22単語の認識実験を行った.結果として77.3%の認識率を示した.

© 2014 IEEE. This paper proposes an automatic clustering method using self-organizing feature maps (SOM). There are a lot of studies on the automatic clustering. Among them, SOM-based clustering methods are attracted in terms of visual understandabilities. In general SOM, each weight vector after learning covers a subspace in input space. In the SOM-based clustering, a histogram, i.e. a density distribution of data, is constructed from the frequency of data existing in each subspace. In most situations, the histogram obtained from the learnt SOM involves more excessive peaks and valleys than we envisioned by the true number of clusters. Therefore, it is difficult to assign the data to clusters from the visual inspections of histogram. In this study, to eliminate the unnecessary extremums from histogram and make cluster analyses easier, a method to smooth the histogram is proposed. In the proposed method, the histogram is edited by considering learnt weight vectors and neighborhood characteristics. As a result, the edited histogram is enough smoothed to understand the relationships between the agglomeration of data and clusters. In addition, an automatic clustering scheme is proposed on the basis of the edited histogram. The effectiveness and the validity of the proposed method for the automatic clustering are examined for several artificially generated data.

This paper proposes a fuzzy-rule-embedded reduction image construction method for image enlargement. A fuzzy rule is generated by considering distribution of pixel value around a target pixel. The generated rule is embedded into the target pixel in a reduction image. The embedded fuzzy rule is used in a fuzzy inference to generate a highly magnified image from the reduction image. Experimental results, which scale factors are three and four, show that the proposed method realizes high-quality image enlargement in terms of both objective and subjective evaluations in comparison with conventional methods. We propose a cluster analysis method using self-organizing feature maps (SOM). SOM-based cluster analysis methods are attracted among a lot of studies on the automatic cluster analysis methods. In most situations, a histogram, i.e. a density distribution of data, obtained from the learnt SOM involves more excessive peaks and valleys than we envisioned by the true number of clusters. In this paper, a method to smooth the histogram is proposed to make cluster analysis easier and to eliminate the unwanted extreme values. The effectiveness and the validity of the proposed method for the automatic clustering are examined for several artificially generated data.

A new computer aided diagnosis (CAD) system for a plain chest radiograph is proposed in this study. CAD systems enhancing lung nodules have been actively studied to distinguish the lung nodules. Currently, temporal subtraction (TS) based systems are used extensively for CAD systems to enhance the lung nodules. The TS method can suppress false positives comparatively because it uses the past chest radiograph of the same person. However, the TS method cannot be applied to initial visitors because they have no past chest radiographs. Although a method enhancing the lung nodules with only one chest radiograph selected among other people was proposed, they have several problems. The purpose of this study is to develop a new CAD system which does not need the past chest radiograph. In our method, a pseudo-normal image is synthesized from a database containing chest radiographs of other patients that have already been diagnosed as normal by some medical specialists. Next, the pseudo-normal image is fed into the CAD system instead of a unique past chest radiograph. At last, subtracting the synthesized normal image from target chest radiograph emphasizes lung nodules. The effectiveness and the validity of the proposed method are verified by some experiments.

High-quality image enlargement is achieved by the augmentation of the high-frequency components that deteriorate as a result of image enlargement. A codebook-based method, which utilizes the relationship of the low- and high-frequency image components, is a proven method of high-quality image enlargement. However, this method requires a significant calculation time to be employed for a codebook search process, and thus is not suitable for real-time processing. In this paper, we propose a fast image-enlargement algorithm that includes a hierarchical predefined codebook and a fast edge-patch detection rule. A hierarchical codebook search reduces the number of comparisons that need to be made in comparison with a conventional full codebook search. In addition, applying the augmentation of the high-frequency components to only the edge patches detected under the proposed rule reduces the calculation time. The experimental results show that the calculation time of the proposed method is around 180 times faster than that of the fastest existing codebook-based method. The proposed method realizes high-quality image enlargement in terms of both objective and subjective evaluations in comparison with conventional methods. © 2013 ICIC International.

The symptoms of "color blindness" are due to an innate lack or deficit of "cone cells" that recognize colors. People with color blindness have difficulty discriminating combinations of specific colors. In this study, we developed a system to support color blindness. In this system, the brightness of colors is modified using a projector-camera system. Images that contain combinations of specific colors are difficult to discriminate using a camera, so this task is performed by a projector. We conducted experiments, to validate our proposed system using various color combinations.

胸部単純X線画像における肺結節陰影は他の正常構造と紛れてしまい人間の目には認識しづらいので陰影を強調する研究が活発に行われている.代表的なものとして経時差分法がある.この手法は同一人物の画像を用いて差分を行うので,ノイズが生じにくい.しかし,この手法は過去画像が必要となるので初診患者に適用することができない.本研究では,過去画像を必要としないCADシステムの実現のために,肺結節陰影等が存在しないことが医師によって診断されている正常な他人の画像と,検査画像の局所的なマッチングを行い,細部まで検査画像に類似した擬似的な正常画像を作成する.この擬似正常画像と検査画像の差分を取ることにより,肺結節陰影強調を行う.

手の動きに関する情報は手話を認識する上で有効な情報である．通常の2Dカメラを用いた場合，3次元方向の手の動きを検知することができない．3次元情報を取得する手法にはToFカメラを用いる方法やステレオカメラを用いる手法がある．しかし，ToFカメラは高価でありコストが高い，ステレオカメラは計算コストが高くリアルタイム性の確保が難しいといった問題がある．当研究ではカメラを使用者の胸の前に装着し，一人称視点映像での手話認識を行っている．一人称視点映像では，3次元方向の動きに対して画像上の面積変化が大きくなるといった特徴がある．本論文ではこれを利用し，手首の面積から3次元方向の動きを検知する手法を提案する．本手法によりジェスチャー認識実験を行った結果，十分な認識を行うことができることが分かった．

本論文では，聴覚障害者と健聴者との間のコミュニケーションツールである手話を一人称視点で認識するシステムについての研究を取り扱う．手話認識を一人称視点で行うため，一人称視点手話認識システム独自の問題点として，正面視点による手話認識システムと比較して，カメラと手の距離が近いことによる手領域のフレームアウトが挙げられる．これを肌色領域抽出のみでフレームアウトの判別を行おうとした場合，手領域の隠蔽と区別がつかないので、手領域の隠蔽と区別ができるようなフレームアウトの判別の手法の構築が必要となる．我々は，手領域の隠蔽とフレームアウトを区別できるような，手領域のフレームアウトの判別を行う手法を構築し，実験を行い結果を示した．

画像拡大が行われることを前提とした,情報埋込型画像縮小を提案する.一般に画像拡大とは,所与画像のみから何らかの方法で解像度の高い画像を生成することである.一方,本研究では,手元に高解像画像があることを前提とする.高解像画像を低解像画像(縮小画像)へ変換する際に,従来の拡大処理では復元不可能な成分を画像中に埋め込み,拡大時にそれを読み出して元の高解像画像に近い画像を得る"往復型画像拡大法"の確立を目的とする.本稿では,縮小により失われる画素情報をコード化し,それを縮小により残る画素の下位2ビットへ埋め込む画像縮小法を提案する.拡大時には,読みだしたコードと近傍画素の情報を用いて補間対象画素を生成する.いくつかの実験によりその有効性を示す.

障害者が自立して円滑な社会生活を送ることは福祉社会の大きな目標と考えられる.視覚障害者にとっては,安全に歩行することが可能かどうかは重要な要素となる.現在,多くの視覚障害者は白杖を頼りに行動している.しかし,白杖では半径1メートル程度しか周囲の状況を把握できず,数メートル先の人や自動車などの接近情報などを捉える事ができないため,行動の事前予測が困難である.これに対し,視覚障害者の歩行を支援するシステムが様々に検討されている.しかし,これらの多くは道路に何らかのマークを設置したり,GPS信号を利用したり,装置が大型なため,実現が困難と考えられるものが多い.そこで,本研究では光反射を用いた画像認識を行うことで数メートル先の障害物を発見し,視覚障害者へ伝達するためのシステムを提案する.

高精細な画像拡大のためには,拡大時に失われた高周波成分を推定する必要がある.我々はこれまでに,局所的なエッジパターンに対する低周波成分と高周波成分の関連を予めコードブックとして事前定義しておき,新たに入力された被拡大画像に適用することで高精細な画像拡大が達成できることを提案している.しかしながら,演算量が膨大で実時間処理が不可能であった.本稿では,コードブックを階層構造へ配置することで演算量を削減し,さらに,FPGA実装することで動画像の実時間処理達成を目指す.階層型コードブックでは,変更前の画像拡大と比較して,画像劣化無しに演算量を約40分の1へと削減できた.また,超並列構造とパイプライン処理を併用したデジタルアーキテクチャのFPGA実装により,VGAサイズの画像を約54fpsの速度で処理できることが分かった.

Decorating human face in video image by estimating eye positions with particle filter has been proposed. Estimation of eye positions is presented in a sequential manner by formulating a face motion in a state space model. The model consists of simplified two-dimensional face with two dimensional motion and rotation. The positions of the two eyes in an image frame play a key role in estimating the face posture. Real-time estimation of eye positions has been realized by particle filter algorithm with likelihood computation consisting of adequacy of face and eyes. Eye decoration works as a result for enlarging the areas of eyes by estimating pupil positions. Experiments with different conditions of face, such as static scene, rotation, parallel motion, and some other motions have conducted to demonstrate performance of the proposed method.

In this paper, a new image enlargement method applying the backprojection for lost pixel (BPLP) to the predefined codebook-based method is proposed. BPLP is a method for image restoration. In BPLP, the eigenspace reflecting the characteristics of an input image is generated from the remained pixels and is used to restore the missing pixels. In the proposed method, the eigenspace is replaced by one generated from the predefined codebook (PDC). PDC represents edge-blurring properties in a small image patch and consists of pairs of low- and high-frequency image patches on various edge patterns. By replacing the PDC-based estimation of lost high-frequency components with BPLP, a fast image enlargement method retaining its performance can be developed. Through some experiments, the effectiveness of the proposed method was demonstrated. Especially, it was confirmed that the processing time of the proposed method was shortened to about 1/50 that of the PDC-based method. © 2011 The Japan Society of Applied Physics.

Major problem of tracking a visual target in occurrence of out-of-field-of-view is unable to obtain information of the target from image frame. We solve this problem by utilizing background information in the image frame. Scenes of tracking a car from an observer in aerial vehicle have been employed. Background information is obtained from road area, building area, and the others. Prior probabilities of existence of the target are pre-assigned for these areas. Two cases have been explored such that 1) road shape as the background information and known observer's location, and 2) all areas in the image frame as the background information and unknown observer's location. State space models have been constructed where system model represents time evolution of velocity and posture of the target and observation model represents likelihood computation. State of the target has been estimated sequentially over the image sequence by particle filter. Experiments with synthetic image sequences show the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2010 TSI Press.

3次元地図生成の手法の1つとして車載カメラにより建物壁面のテクスチャを取得し,これを元に3次元空間上での建物壁面を再現する研究がなされている.ここで,撮影時にカメラの視野に納まりきらない建物に対応するため,パノラマ画像の生成が必要になる.本研究では車載カメラにより撮影された街並みの画像から,パノラマ画像を自動的に生成するシステムの開発を目的とする.パターンマッチングと多数決原理により,街並みの連続画像から,画像間の対応付けを決定した.このとき,画像間の輝度値の差に注目し,値の小さい部分をつなぎ目とすることで,見た目に自然な画像を生成した.つなぎ目の決定には,グラフカットによる,エネルギー最小化を利用した.

Visual tracking is usually unable to track target coming out range of a camera. But proposed method is able to continue tracking target in such case by taking into account background information. A scene is Unmanned Aerial Vehicle is tracking a car on a road. State of the car is velocity and posture. And state of background is quantity of translation movement and Angle of rotation. The both state sequentially is estimated from an image sequence by particle filter. A likelihood of the car calculated based on a color information. And, a likelihood of background calculated based on an optical flow. The background information is road and building. There information is extracted based on a color and edge. Unknown road are extrapolated from known road with cubic splines. Target disappearing from the frame is predicted by observation model which imposes prior knowledge that the car normally moves on the road. Effectiveness of proposed method has been shown through tracking experiments with simulation image sequences.

Recognizing decorated characters using conventional Optical Character Recognition (OCR) requires that the structure of the decorated characters be extracted. The method that Omachi et al. proposed to do this could not extract characters including both thin and thick lines. To improve the performance of Omachi's approach, we proposed using graph spectral decomposition, demonstrating our previous proposal's applicability to wider range of decorated characters. Here we propose a new criterion for selecting structure extraction components in the graph spectral decomposition framework, demonstrating the feasibility of the criterion through experimental results.

Image completion yields whole images by producing plausible parts missing due to the removal of foreground or background elements. Conventionally, missing parts are produced by optimizing the objective function, defined based on pattern similarity between the missing region and the remaining image (data region). The resulting image may be compromised, however, by data region pattern variations. Augmenting data region pattern variations positively produced good results, but tends to cause processing search time to mushroom proportionately. To avoid this, we propose pattern extension based on rotating data region pattern variations and minimizing calculation time using the local orientation of rotated patterns. The effectiveness of this approach was demonstrated by comparing conventional and proposed methods.

In this paper, a fuzzy-clustering-based discriminant method of multiple quadric surfaces in a scene is proposed. This method is intended for scenes involving multiple objects, where each object is approximated by a primitive model. The proposed method is composed of three steps. In the first step, 3D data is reconstructed using a stereo matching technique from a stereo image whose scene involves multiple objects. Next, the 3D data is divided into a single object by employing Fuzzy c-Means accompanied by Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and a criterion with respect to the number of clusters. Finally, the shape of each object is extracted by Fuzzy c-Varietieswith noise clustering. The proposed method was evaluated with respect to some pilot scenes whose ground truth data is known, and it was shown to specify each location and each shape for multiple objects very well.

フォトレタッチソフト等で広く用いられる素朴な補間(共一次線形補間,3次畳み込み補間など)ベースの方法によりデジタル画像の拡大を行った場合,画像の高周波成分が欠落したぼけのある拡大画像が生成される.一般的に,画像の鮮明化・高解像度化は,この欠落高周波成分を何らかの方法で復元することにより行う.本論文では,エッジ特徴に基づく固有空間を用いたBPLPを用いて欠落高周波成分を推定しボケの生じた画像に補填することでボケの少ない鮮明な拡大画像を得る手法を提案する.

ある形状から別の形状へ徐々に変化していく様子を動画で表現するために,その中間を補うための画像を生成する技術にモーフィングがある.この技術の応用例として,医療システムにおける簡易的な疾病変化画像の生成,手話の例文作成システムにおける単語間の画像生成などが考えられている.これらのシステムでは,全ての画像間の内挿系列を事前に用意する必要があり生成に手間がかかる.一方,自己組織化マップ(SOM)は,学習時に与えられるデータ集合に対して近接関係を保持したトポロジカルマッピングを行うことにより,データ空間上の近接関係からデータ間の補間を行うことが可能である.本研究では,このSOMによるデータ補間を画像データの内挿に適用する方法を提案し,その有効性を検証する.

三次元地図の作製では,生成された三次元データに対してテクスチャマッピングが行われる.その作製には,外業によって取得した画像を,マニュアルでの編集作業により貼り付けていく方法が一般的に用いられる.需要が多い都市部などでは詳細な地図が作製されているが,より広域を網羅するには膨大なコストがかかるので,自動化の要望は極めて高い.本研究では,三次元地図の作製過程で行う3Dポリゴンへのテクスチャマッピングを,車載カメラからの画像情報を利用して自動で行うことを目的とする.車載カメラは,広範囲に渡って移動しながら容易に建物壁面の撮影が行える利点が挙げられる.しかし,走行状態の撮影環境は振動や車線に影響をうけるため,地図とカメラの対応付けが難しくなり,結果として画像中の建物の領域特定が困難となる.提案手法では,連続して取得された画像からカメラの軌跡を計算し,地図上のポリゴンに対応する画像中の建物の領域特定を行う.本稿では,ミニチュアモデルを用いて実験を行った結果について検討し,その考察を述べる.

Back projection for lost pixels(BPLP)法は,画像の特徴を表した固有空間を作成し,それを用いて入力画像中の欠損画素を復元する方法である.本報告では,事前定義コードブックを用いた画像拡大法にBPLPを応用した新しい方法を提案する.提案手法では,低周波成分と高周波成分の対の集合からなる事前定義コードブックを用いて固有空間を作成し,これを用いてBPLPを行うことで,標本化時に失われた画像の高周波成分の推定を高速に行う,鮮鋭な画像拡大が実現される.実験により,提案手法の有効性を示す.
