    <p> IoT-based acoustic data collection systems have been proposed for detecting anomalies in mechanical equipment. However, traditional systems using audible sound do not work well due to interference from various sound sources. To solve this problem, we have previously proposed an ultrasonic data collection system, but the clear and high-quality sound required for anomaly detection results in an increase in data volume. This paper proposes a method for extracting only the necessary frequency band based on the periodicity of the target signal, aiming to reduce the amount of data. Our experiments demonstrate that the proposed method efficiently determines the appropriate frequency band in which the characteristics of the target equipment appear, thereby enabling the amount of data to be reduced by more than 45%.</p>

    <p>QUIC is a transport protocol that adds congestion control, retransmission control, and TLS to UDP. QUIC can use the same congestion control algorithms as TCP. In previous work, we have shown that communication performance becomes unfair concerning the buffer size of the shared bottleneck link of two flows, one using CUBIC and the other BBR congestion control algorithms within QUIC. In this study, we improve the communication fairness performance at different bottleneck link buffer sizes by using Round Trip Time (RTT) and Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN) to regulate congestion control aggressiveness when CUBIC and BBR compete within QUIC through actual experiments.</p>

    <p>We propose a floating cyber-physical system (F-CPS) as a novel platform for data distribution and application execution to realize a CPS. The F-CPS constructs a local-oriented and distributed CPS using devices with computing capability close to the user, such as smartphones, sensor devices, vehicles, and roadside units. This paper first provides an overview of the F-CPS and then discusses the challenges posed by the spatio-temporal retention system (STD-RS), a network technology for data distribution and maintenance in the local area of the F-CPS. To address the challenges associated the STD-RS, we propose adaptive data transmission control to effectively retain the STD in a certain area. Finally, we performed network simulations to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed adaptive method.</p>

    With the development and spread of Internet of Things technologies, various types of data for IoT applications can be generated anywhere and at any time. Among such data, there are data that depend heavily on generation time and location. We define these data as spatio-temporal data (STD). In previous studies, we proposed a STD retention system using vehicular networks to achieve the “Local production and consumption of STD” paradigm. The system can quickly provide STD for users within a specific location by retaining the STD within the area. However, this system does not take into account that each type of STD has different requirements for STD retention. In particular, the lifetime of STD and the diffusion time to the entire area directly influence the performance of STD retention. Therefore, we propose an efficient diffusion and elimination control method for retention based on the requirements of STD. The results of simulation evaluation demonstrated that the proposed method can satisfy the requirements of STD, while maintaining a high coverage rate in the area.

    <p>Computer networks are facing serious threats from the emergence of sophisticated new DGA bots. These DGA bots have their own dictionary, from which they concatenate words to dynamically generate domain names that are difficult to distinguish from human-generated domain names. In this letter, we propose an approach for identifying the callback communications of DGA bots based on relations among the words that constitute the character string of each domain name. Our evaluation indicates high performance, with a recall of 0.9977 and a precision of 0.9869.</p>

Recent developments on multipath transport protocols have allowed video streaming transmissions over multiple interfaces, improving session reliability as well as bandwidth performance. One important aspect of multipath transport is the selection of paths on a packet by packet basis. In particular, path switching may cause head of line blocking effects that may impact video rendering. In this work, we analyze the impact of path switching on multipath video streaming, and propose new path schedulers aimed at reducing path switching. We utilize network performance measures, as well as video quality metrics, to characterize new schedulers' performance improvements and interactions between network and application layers of video streams for various network scenarios.

    © 2019 IEEE. Channel bonding is a technology to increase the transmission rate by bundling and using multiple continuous channels. However, the communication performance is likely to degrade frequently due to the channel competition caused by the rapid increase of the wireless LAN devices. Dynamic channel bonding is expected to become the mainstream in the future from the viewpoint of efficient channel utilization even under the severe competitive condition. However, since the implementation of the dynamic channel bonding to real PC and simulator is in the preliminary stage, the detailed performance investigation has not been carried out. None of existing studies examines the performance of the dynamic channel bonding at the frame level with CSMA/CA functions under the diverse channel competition condition. In this study, we first examine the performance of the dynamic channel bonding with CSMA/CA functions through theoretical approach (2 M/M/1/K) from the view point of frame level. In addition, we then implement the channel bonding mechanism into the Scenargie simulator and then verify its effectiveness through the comparison between simulation results and theoretical ones. Simulation results show that the dynamic channel bonding is suffering from the performance degradation due to the performance anomaly problem caused by the airtime unfairness, we thus propose a dynamic A-MPDU adaptation method. We showed that our proposed method can maximize throughput while achieving airtime fairness, irrespective of different patterns of channel competition.

    © 2019 IEEE. IoT devices are increasingly distributed around the world and have been digitizing physical things so far. However, a current IoT service is designed to be independent; it is not intended to conduct data collaboration with other IoT services. It must be important to be able to commonly use IoT data even from IoT devices managed for different services. To promote IoT data collaboration, we proposed a cross-domain data fusion platform on the basis of geographical proximity, called geocentric information platform (GCIP). Although GCIP enabled to collect and process data generated associated with geolocation of data generation, how to disseminate them should be still discussed. We can easily assume that some data summarization is preferable when data are used far away from the location of data generation. We also assume that there must be privacy and security issues in IoT data. That is why we propose a geolocation-aware IoT data dissemination model, which summarizes data due to the different distance between the location of the data source and the location of the destination. That is, as the distance becomes longer, the data is coarser. In this paper, we particularly focus on the behavior of the model and show the conceptual behavior by conducting experiments in a real environment.

    <p>Wireless sensor and actuator networks (WSANs) are expected to become key technologies supporting machine-to-machine (M2M) communication in the Internet of things (IoT) era. However, sensors must be able to provide high demand response (DR) levels despite severely limited battery power. Therefore, as part of efforts to achieve a high DR, we are working on research and development related to radio-on-demand sensor and actuator networks (ROD-SANs). ROD-SAN nodes are equipped with wake-up receivers that allow all nodes to stay in sleep mode for a long period of time, and transmit only after the receiver receives a wake-up signal. In addition, sender nodes can direct the receiver nodes to switch communication channels because the wake-up signal also includes information on the channel to use for communication between each other. However, as the number of nodes utilizing the same channel increases, frequent packet collisions occur, thereby degrading response performance. To reduce packet collisions, we propose an own-channel-utilization based channel switching (OCS) scheme, which is a modification of the average-channel-utilization based switching (ACS) as our previous works. The OCS scheme decides whether or not to switch channels based on a probability value that considers not only average-channel utilization of nearby nodes but also own-channel utilization. This approach permits node switching to other channels by considering the overall utilization states of all channels. In this paper, based on simulations, we show that our scheme can improve the delivery ratio by approximately 15% rather than ACS scheme.</p>

One common way to detect malware-infected machines in a network is by monitoring communications based on blacklists. However, such detection is problematic because (1) no blacklist is completely reliable, and (2) blacklists do not provide the sufficient evidence to allow administrators to determine the validity and accuracy of the detection results. In this paper, we propose a malicious DNS query clustering approach for blacklist-based detection. Unlike conventional classification, our cause-based classification can efficiently analyze malware communications, allowing infected machines in the network to be addressed swiftly.

We proposed a novel scheme that combines information exchange and user social activities in real-time so that users can integrate their communications seamlessly with their daily lives. Called the Real-Spatial Information-Based Group Communication (r-Space) system, this scheme creates r-Space groups by considering personal and location information and enables users to share information within those groups. We developed a prototype system consisted of client application and control server and then conducted a field experiment in Nov. 2016.     © 2016 ACM. The growing ubiquity of on-board wireless communication devices in vehicles is steadily opening up new possibilities of vehicular networks. In this paper, we design a framework to utilize radio-equipped cars as regional information hubs, which periodically disseminate public regional information (e.g., advertisements, travel tips, emergency info, etc.) over a designated geographical area in a city. The cars driving in the designated area repeatedly broadcast the data messages, allowing other drivers and pedestrians to passively obtain the information with their on-board wireless devices and/or smartphones. Although the idea follows a natural extension of the current capability of vehicular networks, vehicle densities in urban areas are typically highly non-uniform both in time and space, making it difficult to robustly disseminate data messages with minimal network load. We tackle this issue by introducing a probabilistic framework to intelligently adapt message dissemination strategy. Analyzing location broadcast messages, which are periodically exchanged among vehicles for safety applications, our protocol predicts future locations of neighboring radio-equipped vehicles and dynamically adjusts probability of message transmissions at each moment to suppress redundant network traffic. As portable information devices with a wireless local area network (LAN) interfaces, such as smartphones and tablet computers, become increasingly widespread, high station density and accompanying severe area throughput degradation are becoming more commonplace. One factor related to this situation is that the initial minimum contention windows size (CWmin) value in current Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) systems is set too low for the number of accessing stations. Because small CWmin values are unsuitable for high station densities, frame collisions become more commonplace and per-station communication performance decreases. In this paper, we assume that numerous stations are connected to a single access point (AP) and propose a media access control method for high station density network. In our proposed method, the AP periodically measures channel utilization and the number of stations that are transmitting frames to the AP, and then modifies the CWmin value based on these parameters. The AP then uses a beacon signal to inform the stations accessing the network of the new CWmin value. To verify the performance of our scheme, QualNet network simulations were performed, the results of which show us that, in terms of throughput, our proposed method outperforms conventional CSMA/CA schemes in wireless LAN environments with high station densities.

    © 2015 IEEE. Wireless sensor and actuator networks (WSANs) are expected to be come fundamental technologies supporting machine-to-machine (M2M) communication and the internet of things (IoT). However, wireless sensors face inherent limitations because they must provide high demand response (DR) despite severely limited battery power. In an effort to achieve both power-saving characteristics in addition to high DR, we are working on research and development of radio-on-demand sensor and actuator networks (ROD-SANs), in which each node is equipped with a wake-up receiver that allows all nodes to stay in sleep mode most of the time, and transmit only after a wake-up signal is received. Since the wake-up signal can also include channel information, the sender nodes can direct the receiver nodes to switch communication channels when needed. However, as the number of nodes using the same channel increases, packet collisions occur more frequently, thereby degrading response performance. On the other hand, frequent channel switching inevitably increases channel switching delays. To simultaneously reduce both packet collisions and channel switching delays, we have extended the average-channel-utilization-based channel switching (ACS) scheme, discussed in our previous work on single-hop communication in a way that allows it to provide efficient performance in multi-hop communication. In this paper, based on simulations, we show how our scheme can improve the delivery ratio performance by approximately 20%.

    With the growth of the Internet, various types of services, such as World Wide Web (WWW), File Transfer Protocol (FTP), remote login, etc., are widely expanded. Consequently, it is difficult for users to manage all the authentication information, e.g., user ID/Password pairs, keys, and certificates, since the authentication information has been increased to use those services. Therefore, Single Sign-On (SSO) system, which makes all the services available for a user by only one-time authentication, has been developed. However, existing systems cannot provide all the SSO services for any kinds of services on the Internet even if the service provider deploys the SSO server. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new SSO system with hardware token and key management server to improve the safety and the convenience. Furthermore, we implement the proposed system, and show its effectiveness through evaluation. In addition, adding any functions for this system provide various conveniences to us. As one example, we add high trust connection function for a Web server, and show its the effectiveness through evaluation by implementing it. © 2007 IEEE.

  • 次世代無線LANの実用化に対する検証とチャネル利用状況を用いた性能改善手法の研 究

    本研究は、同一空間上に多数の無線LAN通信が存在しチャネル干渉により互いに影響し合う環境において、各通信が周辺のチャネル利用状況を把握し活用することで空間全体の通信性能の向上を目指す。具体的には、実機実験により複数の通信を同時に発生させた際に発生する状況を物理層・MAC層の視点から分析することで、チャネルボンディングとMIMOが与える影響を詳細に解析する。そして、この実験結果に基づき、空間全体のチャネル資源を有効利用するためのチャネル割り当て手法を考案・評価する。さらに、周辺のチャネル利用(チャネル干渉)状況をリアルタイムに把握し、高速無線LANに用いられるパラメータを細かく設定することで適切なフレーム伝送速度を選択するレート制御アルゴリズムを考案し、その有効性を示す。

    近年、無線デバイスの爆発的な増大による無線周波数の不足に対して、周波数割り当ての改善とともに、無線通信性能向上のための多くの研究が行われている。本研究は、同一周波数帯を利用する異なる無線通信規格が混在する環境下において、無線資源の有効利用及び通信性能の向上を目指す。具体的には、シミュレーションと実機実験により、通信規格が混在する環境下における無線通信の相互の影響調査を行い、異なる通信規格の混在下におけるチャネル干渉を考慮したチャネル可用率について考案・評価する。さらに、このチャネル可用率に基づき各ノードが全チャネルの状況をリアルタイムに把握し、自律的に周辺ノードと協調することで無線チャネルを効率的に利用可能にする協調型無線ネットワーク構成方式を考案し、その有効性を評価する。

    スマートフォンやセンサー等から集まる多種多量データ(ビッグデータ)の利活用による新市場の創出が期待されているところであるが、ビッグデータのトラヒックは、そのトラヒックが大規模であるだけではなく、広域で常時発生する、局所的に予測困難な変動が発生するなどの、従来想定していなかった特徴を有している。このため、ネットワークがこれらの特徴に柔軟に対応しながらビッグデータの流通を支えることを可能とするための研究開発が求められている。
    本研究開発では、スマートフォンで動作する様々なアプリケーションの通信やセンサーデータ(スマートメータ、医療向けバイタルデータ等)を対象に、1デバイスあたり毎秒数ビット~数十ビット程度のレートで発生するデータが10Gbps以上のネットワークを経由してクラウド等へ配送される通信環境を想定し、サービス毎の要求品質を考慮しながら高い転送効率を実現可能とするビッグデータ配送基盤技術の確立を目指す。

    地理的制約などを考慮した一定の実空間内に存在するユーザから、各ユーザの属性および要求に応じてリアルタイムにユーザグループを構築し、そのユーザグループ間での情報通信サービスを可能とする新たな実空間情報連動型のネットワークシステムの構築を行う。
    本研究開発では、本システムが、現場(実空間エリア)付近での情報共有が何よりも求められる非常災害時等、今後の地域社会における様々な分野での安心・安全を確保していくために必要な新たな情報通信プラットフォームの一部として、幅広く活用可能なシステムの構築を目指す。

  • Radio On Demand Networks の技術を用いたオンデマンド型センサーアクチュエーターネットワーク (ROD-SAN) の研究開発

    消費する電力および電波資源を必要最小限とするRadio On Demand Networks(ROD)技術を無線センサーアクチュエーターネットワーク(WSAN)に適応し、省電力かつ高レスポンスな、オンデマンド型無線センサーアクチュエーターネットワーク(ROD-SAN)を確立する。ROD-SANの技術開発は、IEEE802.15.4対応ウェイクアップ方式、オンデマンド型アクセス方式、オンデマンド無線アクセス対応ルーティング方式の研究開発からなる。開発技術を搭載したROD-SAN機器の試作し、高い省電力性能とレスポンス性能が得られること実証する。

    家庭やオフィスにおいて、無線機器の"つけっぱなし"や"無駄づかい"による電力浪費対策が急務となる。本研究では、無線通信が必要とされる時間、場所および通信用途に応じて、電力および電波リソースを有効利用可能なRadio On Demand Networks(ROD)を開発し、無線ネットワークのCO2排出量を大幅に削減することを目的とする。
     RODの研究開発は、超低消費電力で待機可能なWake-up Receiver、それを具備したオンデマンド無線機器、ウェイクアップ・スリープ制御方式、機器間連携機能、用途に応じた通信パラメーター制御機能の開発からなる。産学連携体制で、既保有技術を最大限に利活用しながら技術開発を進め、研究成果の社会展開のため国際標準化にも取り組みながら、RODのCO2削減効果を実証実験により確認する。
