    <p>In this paper, we propose a highly accurate specific person tracking system for home service robots. This study focuses on Selected Online Ada-Boosting (SOAB) and Kernelized Correlation Filters (KCF). It proposes the Selected KCF (SKCF), which combines features of fast adaptation to a specific person and robustness for occlusion. We also propose a system that combines You Only Look Once (YOLO), a real-time object detection algorithm, with SKCF to initialize and recover the tracking system. The proposed system runs at 17 [fps] in an experimental environment with an Intel Core i7-8700K CPU and an NVIDIA GTX 1080 GPU. We also show that the tracking accuracy of the proposed system on public datasets for tracking specific persons is better than that of conventional methods. </p>

    <p>We have been developing the "Smart Workcell," which supports the elderly and disabled in the high-mix, low-volume production of products and self-help devices. This study installed an electric wheelchair in a Smart Workcell and proposed a velocity-based head gesture control system that uses the face orientation acquired by a depth sensor to allow the user to change the chair posture in an ambient manner. Finally, the proposed system's effectiveness is verified by experiments, and prospects, such as speech recognition methods as a human interface for electric wheelchair are also discussed.</p>

    <p>In a super-ageing society, automating washing, which is a heavy burden among housework, helps to support the lives of elderly people. Among washing automation, the accuracy of clothing identification images obtained from a robot camera greatly influences on the subsequent operation of clothes. In this research, we aim to correctly recognize each garment from multiple clothes. We perform instance segmentation of images containing multiple clothes by Mask R - CNN which is a latest Deep Learning method. We also define the extent of overlapping of clothes as complexity and evaluate the degree to which accuracy is related to complexity.</p>

    <p>In this paper, we propose a new walker system for improving Freezing of Gait in Parkinson's Disease Patients. The system consists of walker with an assistive motor controller with torque sensors and UPS-PD, a pneumatic-based locomotion assistive device. This paper also presents preliminary evaluation of the system, which shows a possibility of estimating the user's walking period using the torque sensors.</p>

    <p>Various myoelectric prosthetic hands have been proposed as a substitute for the hands of those who lost their hands due to disasters and traffic accidents. Most of the prosthetic hands using surface sEMG employ a few electrodes and enable only full-open and close functions. To realize multi-fingered and natural motion with an easy calibration of a low-cost sEMG device, we previously developed a system that can generate multi-fingered and natural motion using a 2D latent-space of the multi-fingered and natural motion acquired by GPLVM, and showed our subjects were able to adapt to the system when the latent-space was visible. In this study, we further examine if subjects can adapt to the system when the latent-space is invisible. Experimental results demonstrate their adaptivity.</p>

    <p>Parkinson's disease is a progressive neurological disease, and one of its major symptoms, freezing of gait(FOG) during walking, leads to difficulty walking and induction of falls, greatly reducing patient's QOL. Meanwhile, it is known that FOG do not easily occur during pedaling. Therefore, in this study, we developed a system for applying unplugged powered suit, to Parkinson's disease patients, that is designed to give somatosensory and motor stimulation using artificial muscles to swing leg, based on the movement of supporting legs during bipedal walking.</p>

    The proposed robot recommendation system is able to make recommendations based on the real-time estimation of the shopper's choice. Our system estimates shoppers' attentions using only head movements The first experiment validated the capability of our intention estimator in a kiosk-shop scenario. In the second experiment, a Humanoid robot intervened in the decision process. As a result, we found that our system significantly changed the shoppers' choices in the two-alternative-forced-choice literature.

    Prediction of driving behaviors is important problem in developing the next-generation driving support system. In order to take account of diverse driving situations, it is necessary to deal with multiple time series data considering commonalities and differences among them. In this paper we utilize the beta process autoregressive hidden Markov model (BP-AR-HMM) that can model multiple time series considering common and different features among them using the beta process as a prior distribution. We apply the BP-AR-HMM to actual driving behavior data to estimate VAR process parameters that represent the driving behaviors, and with the estimated parameters we predict the driving behaviors of unknown test data. The results suggest that it is possible to identify the dynamical behaviors of driving operations using BP-AR-HMM, and to predict driving behaviors in actual environment. © 2013 IEEE.

    2023年7月26日放送のNHK ニュースブリッジ北九州で、「介護イノベーションに挑む学生たち」というタイトルで、すぐ創る課の取り組みが特集として放送されました。

    すぐ創る課は、福祉分野でのデジタル技術の普及を目指して活動している本学の学生プロジェクトであり、今年で設立3年目になります。今までにソフトとハードの両方の技術を用いて様々な課題を解決してきました。

    その活動の一環として、下肢の不自由な方が椅子から立ち上がる際に転倒しないようにする、転倒を防止するキャスター付き椅子の作成を大分県別府市の企業、オムロン太陽株式会社とともに開発を進めてきました。

    今回のNHK北九州ニュースブリッジの特集では、この転倒防止椅子の開発にフォーカスを当て、開発、実証、ディスカッションの一連の過程をご覧いただけます。
