Phase formation and UV luminescence of Gd<sup>3+</sup> doped perovskite-type YScO<inf>3</inf> 査読有り国際誌

© 2016 Elsevier Inc.Synthesis of pure and Gd3+doped perovskite-type YScO3 was attempted by a polymerized complex (PC) method and solid state reaction (SSR) method. Crystalline phases and UV luminescence of samples were examined with varying heating temperatures. The perovskite-type single phase was not simply formed in the SSR method, as reported in some literatures, and two cubic C-type phases of starting oxide materials remained forming slightly mixed solid solutions. UV luminescence of Gd3+ doped samples increased with an increase in heating temperatures and volume of the perovskite-type phase. In contrast, a non-crystalline precursor was crystallized to a single C-type phase at 800 °C in the PC method forming a completely mixed solid solution. Then, the phase of perovskite-type YScO3 formed at 1200 °C and its single phase was obtained at 1400 °C. It was revealed that high homogeneousness of cations was essential to generate the single perovskite-phase of YScO3. Because Gd3+ ions were also dissolved into the single C-type phase in Gd3+ doped samples, intense UV luminescence was observed above 800 °C in both C-type phase and perovskite-type phase.

© 2016 Elsevier B.V.A simple method to analyze 4f energy levels of trivalent lanthanide (Ln) ions was demonstrated by conventional X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) measurements using Ln ions doped YAlO3 sintered polycrystalline samples. Although XPS peaks derived from Ln 4f states overlapped with the host's valence band consisting of O 2p states, the difference XPS spectra between Ln doped and non-doped samples showed only the Ln 4f peaks due to the large difference of photoionization cross sections between Ln 4f and O 2p orbitals. The difference spectra showing Ln 4f states were aligned at the valence band maximum (VBM) making use of the peaks of Al 2p inner shells, and the Ln3 + 4f energy levels referred to the VBM were determined from the Ln3 + 4f peak energies. The Ln3 + 4f energy levels obtained by this simple method were in good agreement with those previously obtained by resonant ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy measurements using single crystal samples.

We have obtained green photoluminescence in rare-earth-doped perovskite-type alkaline-earth stannate thin films. On a glass substrate with a seed layer prepared by the Langmuir-Blodgett method, uniaxially oriented thin films of [(Ca0.97Mg0.03)0.98Tb 0.02]SnO3 with sharp and intense emission and transmittance > 75% have been successfully obtained. The precoated seed layer has been found to be essential to deposit the strongly photoluminescent and transparent films on to glass. © 2010 ITE and SID.
