    <p>In the 2nd report, the evaluation factors for void closure under the condition of multipass forging revealed that true strain <i>ε<sub>z</sub> </i> in the <i>z</i> direction is appropriate for the evaluation factors for void closure. However, although the effectiveness of the hydrostatic stress ratio <i>σ<sub>m </sub> </i>/<i>σ<sub>eq</sub> </i> for void closure was clear in the 1st report, the reasons were not clarified. In this paper, we investigated the effects of stress factors on void closure and its handling through numerical experiments. The following results were obtained. 1) By using the true stress in each direction, the deformation behavior of voids can be evaluated as a dimensional change of the diameter on the basis of the frictionless model. 2) In the <i>z</i> stroke direction, the void is easier to close than in the frictionless model when <i>σ<sub>z </sub> </i>/<i>σ<sub>eq</sub> </i> is -1 or less, and harder to close than in the frictionless model if not. 3) The void diameter in the <i>x</i> direction, <i>d<sub>x</sub> </i>, is smaller than in the frictionless model when <i>σ<sub>x </sub> </i>/<i>σ<sub>eq</sub> </i> is 0 or less, and larger than in the frictionless model if not. 4) When there is a void on the axis of symmetry, <i>σ<sub>m </sub> </i>/<i>σ<sub>eq</sub> </i> can be used to evaluate <i>ε<sub>z</sub> </i> for void closure and the dimensional change of <i>d<sub>x</sub> </i> . In addition, we clarified the influences of material size, void size, and mechanical properties of the material on void closure.</p>

    <p>For manufacturers, rapid and accurate quality control of materials and products in the field is essential for improving competitiveness. Rebound hardness testing is one of the fundamental material tests expected to meet this requirement. However, it has been known that many factors affect rebound hardness which may cause the fluctuation in the measured value. In order to elucidate the effect of the fixing method of the specimen, the coefficient of restitution of a hammer using a Vickers indenter was compared with and without bolting the specimen to the base. The motions of the hammer and the specimen were measured simultaneously using two laser Doppler vibrometers and were also numerically analyzed using an elastoplastic finite element method. It has been clarified that, in the case of without bolting, the restitution coefficient is decreased compared to with bolting. The decreasing tendency becomes larger as the impact point moves away from the specimen center. The rebounding behaviors of the hammer and the specimen without bolting can be reproduced with a numerical model in which an appropriate elastic film is inserted between the specimen and the base. The numerical results show that the hammer impact causes rigid body motion in the specimen, which consumes hammer energy, resulting in a decrease in the coefficient of restitution. The range in which the coefficient of restitution can change is also evaluated by assuming a simple two-body collision model.</p>

    <p>Previous studies have shown that true strain is effective for evaluating void closure in multipass forging. However, the above-mentioned result was obtained by numerical simulation and an experiment using hot steel with a reduced-scale model having a spherical void, and it has not been confirmed whether it is effective with a real machine. Therefore, in this study, the effectiveness of using true strain was verified in real machine tests. The following conclusions were obtained. 1) In the ultrasonic test (UT) after the third forging, despite the equivalent strain applied to two steel ingots being the same, a large difference occurred in the defect distribution. From this result, it was clarified that the closing behavior of the void in actual machines under multipass forging cannot be evaluated using equivalent strain. 2) In the UT after the fourth forging, as a result of applying the same true strain to two steel ingots, the defects of both steel ingots almost disappeared and the results were the same. Therefore, it was clarified that the closing behavior of the void in actual machines under multipass forging can be evaluated using true strain.</p>

    The elastic contact of two-dimensional regular wavy surface with a flat surface is studied by using three types of blocks of silicone rubber as specimen. The effect of the surface profile on the growth of the real contact area is investigated from the first touch to the complete contact The experimental results show the formation of the percolation channels allowing the leakage of fluid and the dependence of the size of the contact area on the load are markedly affected by the shape of the valley of the wavy surface. In the case of the specimen with U-shaped trough, each contact spot touches the neighbors before complete contact, resulting in the extinction of the percolation channels. In this case, the real contact area linearly increases with the load if the real contact area approaches the complete contact On the other hand, in the case with V-shaped trough, the percolation channels could be hardly extinguished. The effect of the air entrapped between the contact surfaces is also discussed.

    Sputtered molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) films having various densities, interplanar spacing and proportion of void were prepared on the surface of the rollers for cross roller bearing by varying argon gas pressure from 1.7 Pa to 6.7 Pa. After sputtering, dry air was introduced into the vacuum chamber, and then the rollers were exposed in air atmosphere. The effect of the introduction of dry air into the vacuum chamber on the friction and the wear life of the MoS2 films have been investigated by the friction test conducted in air atmosphere where the humidity is controlled. It is found that the effect of the introduction of dry air into the vacuum chamber varies depending on the argon gas pressure. The film prepared by an argon gas pressure of 4.0 Pa, which has a higher true density and a lower (00·2) interplanar spacing, shows the most significant improvement of the tribological performance. It is also found that even a 4.0 Pa film shows a sharp drop of wear life when storage period of the test piece in air of 30% relative humidity exceeds 50 days.

    ハンマが試料に衝突する際のハンマ傾斜角の影響に着目した。対面角が136°から172°のダイヤモンド四角錐圧子を有する4種のハンマを用いて,試料との衝突時の鉛直方向からのハンマの傾斜角と反発係数の関係を調査した。その結果,対面角136°の場合には傾斜角の影響は比較的小さいのに対し,対面角が増加すると,傾斜角が増加するにつれて反発係数は増加し,その傾向は対面角が大きいほど大きくなることを明らかにした。また,この原因についても検討を行った。
