Fatigue life prediction of electroactive polymer strain sensor

Electroactive polymers strain sensors bear a great potentiality in the area of soft robotics, wearable devices, and fitness
industries. A small initial defect present in such sensor may grow to a critical size during contraction and relaxation
cycles leading to mechanical failure, therefore, prediction of fatigue life is inevitable. The crack growth approach is
one of the amicable ways to estimate the fatigue life considering parameters like tear energy, crack geometry, and
power law. In this work, crack growth approach based on power law is being proposed to predict fatigue life utilizing
conducting and stretchable freestanding films consisted of SEBS rubber and dodecyl benzenesulfonic acid (DBSA)
doped polyaniline composite. Utilizing this crack growth model for the prediction of fatigue life exhibited that such
films can sustain more than a million cycles even at a large value of deformation.

Performance and operational lifetime of organic material based electronic and optoelectronic devices depend on the degree of electron delocalization and its stability. Apart from material properties, another challenge in exploiting the potential of organic electronics is its cost, user-friendly, and ordered/crystalline thin film fabrication techniques. Therefore, a facile deposition technique is highly desired to have precise control over polymer chain ordering along with large area homogeneous thin film fabrication. In this work, the floating-film transfer method (FTM) has been utilized, which provides a large area, highly oriented, crystalline, and smooth polymer thin films. In the case of self-assembled conjugated polymer thin films, the edge of the crystalline domains corresponds to the folded polymeric chains. These folding introduces constraints in the growth of crystalline domains by limiting the successive molecular chain packing as well as causes lattice parameter fluctuation. Therefore, local alignment of polymeric chains in close proximity via - stacking can counterbalance disorders like backbone twisting, chain ends, stacking faults, etc. This work provides a novel technique to fabricate highly edge-on oriented thin solid films of polythiophene and its derivatives.

Conjugated polymers (CPs) offer adequate freedom to improve the charge transport in their thin films by tuning their chemical structure or processing techniques aiming towards enhancing their crystallinity. Exploiting quasi 1-dimensional nature of CPs is one of the best possible approaches to improve the carrier transport by uniaxially orienting them along the channel of an organic field-effect transistor (OFET). Various solution-based approaches in order to orient the CPs leading to high-performance OFETs has been demonstrated, however, the limitations like need of good solubility of the CPs, surface wettability, pre-aggregation in solution, etc., are the bottleneck to generalize them. Moreover, inevitability of halogenated solvents for film fabrication may also lead to serious health and environmental hazards during large scale production. Friction transfer is a solvent-free processing technique to fabricate large-area oriented polymer thin films and can effectively be utilized to overcome aforementioned challenges. In this work, role of dielectric surface to control the anisotropic charge transport in the OFETs has been extensively investigated and considering the optical and electrical characteristics, a possible transport mechanism has been proposed.

分子配向制御技術は導電性高分子の光学的および電気的異方性を引き出すための重要な技術である。我々は新たな分子配向制御技術として浮遊薄膜転写法（FTM）を提案してきた。FTM は，高濃度の導電性高分子溶液を親水性粘性液体面上に展開することで配向薄膜を得る手法である。本研究ではリボン状FTM を用いて，poly[2,5-(2-octyldodecyl)-3,6-diiketopyrrolo pyrrole-alt-5,5-(2,5-di(thien-2-yl)thieno[3,2-b]thiophene)]（DPP2T-TT）を用いた異方的OTFTの作製および，poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene)（PF8）を混合することによるDPP2T-TT配向膜の成膜性，配向性の向上を試みた
