障害者が自立して円滑な社会生活を送ることは福祉社会の大きな目標と考えられる.視覚障害者にとっては,安全に歩行することが可能かどうかは重要な要素となる.現在,多くの視覚障害者は白杖を頼りに行動している.しかし,白杖では半径1メートル程度しか周囲の状況を把握できず,数メートル先の人や自動車などの接近情報などを捉える事ができないため,行動の事前予測が困難である.これに対し,視覚障害者の歩行を支援するシステムが様々に検討されている.しかし,これらの多くは道路に何らかのマークを設置したり,GPS信号を利用したり,装置が大型なため,実現が困難と考えられるものが多い.そこで,本研究では光反射を用いた画像認識を行うことで数メートル先の障害物を発見し,視覚障害者へ伝達するためのシステムを提案する.

人の目の中で色を認識する錐体と呼ばれる細胞の機能の先天的欠如や低下により，色覚異常と呼ばれる症状がある．この色覚特性を持つ人は，特定の色の組み合わせに対してその弁別が困難である．そこで本研究では，この色覚異常者のための視認性向上支援システムを提案する．提案手法としてはプロジェクタカメラシステムによる明度色彩補正を行う．具体的には弁別困難な色の組み合わせの画像をカメラで取得し，プロジェクタの投影により補正を行う．実験では，様々な組み合わせに対して提案法の有効性を検証する．

画像の局所ヒストグラムは画像処理の様々な応用において有益な情報を与えるが,その画像全体にわたる近傍計算のためのコストは膨大となるため,その利用が困難であった.近年,Kassらによって,局所ヒストグラムを近似的に計算するための効率のよいアルゴリズムとして,平滑化局所ヒストグラムが提案された.本報告では,平滑化局所ヒストグラムを用いて,画像コントラスト強調の代表的な手法であるヒストグラム均等化を局所的に適用する方法について検討した.

高精細な画像拡大のためには,拡大時に失われた高周波成分を推定する必要がある.我々はこれまでに,局所的なエッジパターンに対する低周波成分と高周波成分の関連を予めコードブックとして事前定義しておき,新たに入力された被拡大画像に適用することで高精細な画像拡大が達成できることを提案している.しかしながら,演算量が膨大で実時間処理が不可能であった.本稿では,コードブックを階層構造へ配置することで演算量を削減し,さらに,FPGA実装することで動画像の実時間処理達成を目指す.階層型コードブックでは,変更前の画像拡大と比較して,画像劣化無しに演算量を約40分の1へと削減できた.また,超並列構造とパイプライン処理を併用したデジタルアーキテクチャのFPGA実装により,VGAサイズの画像を約54fpsの速度で処理できることが分かった.

Decorating human face in video image by estimating eye positions with particle filter has been proposed. Estimation of eye positions is presented in a sequential manner by formulating a face motion in a state space model. The model consists of simplified two-dimensional face with two dimensional motion and rotation. The positions of the two eyes in an image frame play a key role in estimating the face posture. Real-time estimation of eye positions has been realized by particle filter algorithm with likelihood computation consisting of adequacy of face and eyes. Eye decoration works as a result for enlarging the areas of eyes by estimating pupil positions. Experiments with different conditions of face, such as static scene, rotation, parallel motion, and some other motions have conducted to demonstrate performance of the proposed method.

In this paper, a new image enlargement method applying the backprojection for lost pixel (BPLP) to the predefined codebook-based method is proposed. BPLP is a method for image restoration. In BPLP, the eigenspace reflecting the characteristics of an input image is generated from the remained pixels and is used to restore the missing pixels. In the proposed method, the eigenspace is replaced by one generated from the predefined codebook (PDC). PDC represents edge-blurring properties in a small image patch and consists of pairs of low- and high-frequency image patches on various edge patterns. By replacing the PDC-based estimation of lost high-frequency components with BPLP, a fast image enlargement method retaining its performance can be developed. Through some experiments, the effectiveness of the proposed method was demonstrated. Especially, it was confirmed that the processing time of the proposed method was shortened to about 1/50 that of the PDC-based method. © 2011 The Japan Society of Applied Physics.

Major problem of tracking a visual target in occurrence of out-of-field-of-view is unable to obtain information of the target from image frame. We solve this problem by utilizing background information in the image frame. Scenes of tracking a car from an observer in aerial vehicle have been employed. Background information is obtained from road area, building area, and the others. Prior probabilities of existence of the target are pre-assigned for these areas. Two cases have been explored such that 1) road shape as the background information and known observer's location, and 2) all areas in the image frame as the background information and unknown observer's location. State space models have been constructed where system model represents time evolution of velocity and posture of the target and observation model represents likelihood computation. State of the target has been estimated sequentially over the image sequence by particle filter. Experiments with synthetic image sequences show the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2010 TSI Press.

Aimed at face posture estimation and tracking in real time from image sequence captured by camera, we have proposed a method using state space model for estimating face direction and position with simplified flat face and two eyes model. Real-time implementation of state estimation for the model has been done with particle filter algorithm. Experiments with two obvious marks, picture face, face photo, and real face have demonstrated to show performance of the proposed method.
