An in-memory computing circuit with carry-over thermometer coding for a hippocampus-inspired model 査読有り

The memory-based hippocampus-inspired model (MBHIM) that has been proposed by the authors is a model that reproduces episodic memory suitable for VLSI implementation. While an MBHIM VLSI circuit can achieve high energy efficiency using the in-memory computing architecture with thermometer coding, its computational functionality was limited to addition operation. The use of thermometer coding, though enabling simple VLSI implementation, remains an integration density challenge. In this paper, we propose a memory cell circuit for MBHIM, which supports addition and subtraction using in-memory computing, enabling broader applications, including time-dependent forgetting mechanisms. We also propose a carry-over thermometer coding scheme for efficient value representation, achieving a reduction of 60-90% transistor count compared to conventional approaches. This scheme maintains the advantages of thermometer coding while achieving high integration density, making it particularly effective for memory devices with high write error rates, such as MRAM and ReRAM. The proposed scheme is promising for realizing brain-inspired AI hardware that achieves low power consumption, high computational efficiency, and high integration density.

The guide robot in an exhibition environment is expected to entertain visitors and reduce the maintenance cost of updating the robot database according to the changes in exhibition contents. The exhibition comprises printed panels for humans and a 2D marker printed with ultraviolet ink for robots. 2D markers are attached to the bottom of the exhibition furniture to make the markers invisible to visitors. The exhibition point may change depending on the contents of the exhibition. By searching for 2D markers autonomously in an exhibition space, the robot can update its internal database. This enables us to keep both the printed panel and the robot database without changing the robot database by users. The experiment is conducted in an exhibition environment, and the success rate in finding the exhibition point is evaluated.

The advent of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) using large language models (LLMs) has brought about a transformation in the fields of education and home robotics. This study examines how students at the Kyushu Institute of Information Sciences perceive and utilize ChatGPT, with a particular on their familiarity, ethical considerations, and trust (FET) concerns. To further investigate this, we developed an educational EV-3 robot powered by ChatGPT and simulate the voice command using socket connections. By combining surveys with hands-on experiments, we uncovered the strengths and limitations of both the educational and home robotics roles. Our findings highlight the importance of FET, and 88% of respondents have no issues with implementing such technologies in the future.

This study proposes a framework that integrates Open Street Map (OSM) data with ontology-based systems to enhance automated driving. OSM provides static geographical data, while the Lanelet2 mapping framework incorporates lane level road information and topological relationships. This combination enables advanced testing of vehicle behaviour in realistic environments. Ontology-based integration offers semantic representations of road elements and traffic rules, supporting the modeling of complex driving scenarios. By structuring spatial and semantic data, this approach ensures accurate simulation and testing, facilitating applications such as traffic analysis, route optimization, and automated driving decision-making. The framework enhances scalability, precision, and safety in autonomous vehicle development, enabling more effective testing and validation. This integration supports comprehensive, context-aware simulations that improve vehicle response to real-world driving conditions.

The artificial intelligence (AI) paradigm shifts from software to implementing general-purpose or application-specific hardware systems with lower power requirements. This study explored a material physical reservoir consisting of a material random network, called in-materio physical reservoir computing (RC) to achieve efficient hardware systems. The device, made up of a random, highly interconnected network of nonlinear Ag2Se nanojunctions as reservoir nodes, demonstrated the requisite characteristics of an in-materio physical reservoir, including but not limited to nonlinear switching, memory, and higher harmonic generation. The power consumption of the in-materio physical reservoir is 0.07 nW per nanojunctions, confirming its highly efficient information processing system. As a hardware reservoir, the devices successfully performed waveform generation tasks. Finally, a voice classification by an in-materio physical reservoir is achieved over 80%, comparable to an RC software simulation. In-materio physical RC with rich nonlinear dynamics has huge potential for next-generation hardware-based AI.

In this paper, we propose an improving method for raising the accuracy of camera-based pose recognition system in back-lighting environments. The proposed method uses a multi-scale retinex with color restoration (MSRCR) for contrast enhancement, and a bilateral filter (BF) for noise removal to the input image as sequential preprocessing. After preprocessing, the proposed method classifies the human pose in the input image by using PoseNet, which is one of the machine learning-based vision models. PoseNet extracts 17 key-points, e.g., joints of arms and legs of person, from an input image, and outputs the coordinates of their key-points. The validity and the effectiveness of the proposed system have been verified by some experiments.

本研究では，機械学習に用いたときに，人が作成するデータセットと同等の精度を得られるデータセットを自動生成する手法の実現を目指す．特に画像を解析しながらデータセットを構築する手法に注目して取り組む．具体的には，生成に用いる画像を解析し，生成方法を設計，データセット生成後に生成したデータセットを解析する，というものである．本稿ではこの一連の処理に対してトイデータや軽量なアルゴリズムを採用し，まずはツールチェーンの構築に取り組む．評価実験では，データセットの解析値や学習した結果を使って定量的・定性的にツールの機能や提案手法の学習への効果を確認した．
