For nonlinear systems with delay of neutral type, we propose a new technique of stability and robustness analysis. It relies on the construction of functionals that make it possible to establish estimates of the solutions different from, but very similar to, estimates of ISS or iISS type. These functionals are themselves different from, but very similar to, ISS or iISS Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals. The approach applies to systems which do not have a globally Lipschitz vector field and are not necessarily locally exponentially stable. We apply this technique to carry out a backstepping design of stabilizing control laws for a family of neutral nonlinear systems. © 2012 AACC American Automatic Control Council).

In this paper, we study dynamical networks consisting of neutral subsystems and propose a method that enables us to verify their stability and robustness with respect to time delays and disturbances. Time-delays are allowed not only to reside in both subsystems and interconnection channels in either of discrete and distributed forms, but also to appear in the neutral form. Each neutral subsystem is assumed to have a sort of integral input-to-state stable property. No assumption is made on the interconnection topology. A small-gain-type sufficient condition for global asymptotic stability and robustness of the network is developed and a Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional proving the stability is constructed. © 2012 AACC American Automatic Control Council).

This note investigates the trade-off arising in disturbance attenuation for nonlinear feedback systems in the framework of integral input-to-state stability. Similarly to the linear case, we show that if a gain tuning on one subsystem is used to drastically reduce the effect of its exogenous disturbances, then the other subsystem's disturbance attenuation is qualitatively the same as in open loop. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper gives a solution to the problem of verifying stability of networks consisting of integral input-to-state stable (iISS) subsystems. The iISS small-gain theorem developed recently has been restricted to interconnection of two subsystems. For large-scale systems, stability criteria relying only on gain-type information have been successful only in dealing with input-to-state stable stable (ISS) subsystems. To address the stability problem involving iISS subsystems interconnected in general structure, this paper shows how to construct Lyapunov functions of the network by means of nonlinear sum of individual Lyapunov functions of subsystems given in a dissipation formulation under an appropriate small-gain condition. © 2011 AACC American Automatic Control Council.

The standard ISS small-gain theorem and the recently-developed iISS small-gain theorem assume that system components are characterized in a symmetric way with respect to the equilibrium. Dissipative properties of a nonlinear system is usually asymmetric. Formulating them into symmetric properties sometimes causes crucial conservativeness. The purpose of this paper is to develop a technique to take the asymmetry into account in stability analysis of time-delay systems. The result is based on decomposition of a system into integral input-to-state stable dynamic components and static components characterized in an asymmetric way with respect to the equilibrium. A Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional establishing robustness with respect to disturbances in the presence of time-delays is constructed, and its effectiveness is illustrated by a network flow control example. The proposed iISS methodology covers a broader class of systems than existing approaches based on operator norms or the ISS gain. © 2011 AACC American Automatic Control Council.
